2013 Assen Moto2 Race Result: Lively Clash For Victory

Summary and results of Moto2 race:

The best weather of the weekend greeted the Moto2 riders for their race at Assen as rare sunshine bathed the circuit. Pol Espargaro was able to make the most of the ideal conditions, coming out on top of a relentless duel with main title rival Scott Redding. Redding had pulled a half a second lead with four laps remaining as Espargaro looked to be suffering with tyre problems. The Spaniard was slipping and sliding all over the track but recovered brilliantly, latching back onto the rear wheel of the Briton on the penultimate lap. The Tuenti HP 40 Pons rider eventually made his play for the lead at turn one on the final lap and wasn't to be denied from there, taking the checkered flag.

Dominique Aegerter took his first ever podium position after finishing the race in third place. The Suisse rider initially broke away with Redding and Espargaro at the head of the race but he was eventually dropped back into an entertaining scrap with Mika Kallio, Esteve Rabat and Johann Zarco who completed the top six. The group was covered by only half a second.

Xavier Simeon, Tom Luthi, Jordi Torres and Ant West rounded out the top ten while there were crashes for Simone Corsi, Kyle Smith, Mike DiMeglio and Toni Elias, who had the misfortune of losing the front on the warm up lap.
