Results and summary of qualifying for the MotoGP class at Valencia:
Dani Pedrosa has taken the final pole position of the 2012 season, posting a final blistering lap to smash one of the oldest pole records still on the books, Valentino Rossi's lap from the 2006 race. Pedrosa came out on top of a furious three-way battle with Jorge Lorenzo and Casey Stoner, the men who have dominated this season. In his final effort, Pedrosa posted a near perfect lap to be the first person to get round the Valencia track in under 1'31.
Jorge Lorenzo will start from 2nd, edging ahead of Casey Stoner with his last lap, but unable to get anywhere near the time of Pedrosa. Casey Stoner rounds out the front row, the Australian having led in the early part of the battle for pole, but falling short when the two Spaniards upped the pace. Cal Crutchlow heads up the second row, coming close to bumping Stoner out of 3rd. In the end, the Tech 3 man came within a tenth of the Australian, and was forced to settle for fo 4th. Stefan Bradl sits beside Crutchlow on the grid, after a strong showing throughout qualifying on the LCR Honda. Bradl just edged out Andrea Dovizioso, the Italian ending qualifying in 6th.
Nicky Hayden heads up the 3rd row, but his gap to Pedrosa is large. The Factory Ducati man is seven tenths behind Dovizioso, and nearly 1.7 slower than Pedrosa's pole time. Alvaro Bautista ended qualifying in 8th, fractionally ahead of his fellow Spaniard Hector Barbera, who rounds out the third row. Aleix Espargaro set the 10th fastest time, the CRT man ending the session ahead of Valentino Rossi. Rossi is struggling badly in his final weekend on the Ducati, and qualified two seconds slower than Pedrosa in 11th.
