Phillip Island WorldSBK Test Day 2 Results: Rea Takes Back Control

Jonathan Rea took command of the final WorldSBK test ahead of the season start this weekend at Phillip Island, finishing the test on top of the timesheets. But the margin the KRT Kawaski rider had was small: just (an ironic) 0.076 seconds ahead of Loris Baz on the Ten Kate Yamaha. Rea's time was good, but his race pace was ferocious, putting in a lot of high 1'30s and low 1'31s.

Baz' performance was also impressive, having spent his day on the 2019 engine for his Yamaha R1, expecting to receive an upgrade when action gets underway on Friday.  Tom Sykes finished the day third overall on the BMW S1000RR, having also spent a lot of the day working on bike balance to improve race pace. Toprak Razgatlioglu was the first of the Pata Yamahas home, three tenths of a second behind Rea and looking strong ahead of the first race.

Leon Haslam ended the test in fifth place on the brand new Honda CBR1000RR-R, the Englishman going well at a track where he is always strong. And Scott Redding finished in sixth place overall, the reigning BSB champion still working to figure out the soft Pirelli qualifying tire. Redding's Ducati Panigale V4R made it five manufacturers in the top six.

The riders now have two days off before the season commences. The opening round at Phillip Island starts on Friday.

Qatar MotoGP Test Monday Final Times: Viñales Leads Morbidelli As Test Ends

Maverick Viñales finishes the Qatar MotoGP test as the fastest rider, just as he did in 2019, the Monster Energy Yamaha rider finishing just ahead of Petronas Yamaha's Franco Morbidelli. Viñales and Morbidelli were the only riders to get into the 1'53s, though both Yamaha men were still three tenths off last year's pole time, and nearly half a second slower than the outright pole record.

Alex Rins took third place on the Suzuki Ectar GSX-RR, two tenths behind Viñales and Morbidelli, and a few thousandths ahead of Fabio Quartararo on the Petronas Yamaha. Quartararo had a technical problem with his Factory-Spec Yamaha M1 at the start of the evening, losing out on track time.

Jack Miller finished fifth fastest on the Pramac Ducati, not just quick over a lap, but also setting the highest top speed, at 355.2 km/h. Joan Mir was sixth fastest on the second Suzuki, and just ahead of Marc Marquez on the Repsol Honda, the reigning champion spending his time on mixture of parts from several different years on the final day of the test.

Takaaki Nakagami was seventh quickest on the 2019-spec Honda RC213V, while Brad Binder posted an impressive lap to finish ninth, and best KTM rider. Andrea Dovizoso rounds out the top ten on the factory Ducati, just under half a second slower than Viñales. the field was close once again, with 18 riders finishing within a second of one another.

Qatar MotoGP Test Monday 4pm Times: Quartararo Leads As Marquez Takes Step Back

The final day of 2020 preseason testing for MotoGP is being used to switch focus to the race in two weeks. Fabio Quartararo took to the track early - second only a minute or two after Bradley Smith - and leads the way at the 4pm mark. Danilo Petrucci is currently second, a few thousandths slower than Quartararo, while Marc Marquez is currently third fastest.

In a sign that Honda are concerned about the 2020 season, a 2019-spec Honda RC213V has turned up in Marc Marquez' garage, and the reigning champion is likely to run back-to-back testing to try to solve the persistent issue with front-end feeling and engine braking pushing the front end on corner entry.

Ducati have also been busy, unveiling a revised aerodynamic package, with only minor differences to the 2019 fairing. The upper wing is a little larger, the side pods a little smaller. Photos on the GPOne.com website for comparison.

Testing continues for another four hours, until 8pm local time.

Phillip Island WorldSBK Test Day 1 Results: Razgatlioglu Leads As Last Test Starts

With the WorldSBK season due to kick off next weekend, the teams and riders get one last chance to prepare for 2020, with testing taking place on Monday and Tuesday. The first day of the test did not run entirely smoothly, Phillip Island's notorious winds and brief showers chasing riders on and off track, with a smattering of red flags thrown into the mix.

Toprak Razgatlioglu leads the way after the end of the first day, the Pata Yamaha rider just a fraction faster than Tom Sykes on the BMW in second and Loris Baz on the Ten Kate Yamaha in third. Less than four hundredths separates the top three.

Returning champion Jonathan Rea ended the first day in fourth place on the Kawasaki, a quarter of a second ahead of former teammate Leon Haslam on the brand new Honda CBR1000RR-R. Haslam, in turn, was four hundredths faster than Aruba Ducati rider Scott Redding. The field was close, the first nine riders within a second.

Testing concludes on Tuesday.

Phillip Island WorldSSP Test Day 1 Results: Locatelli Leads A Brace Of MV Agustas

The WorldSSP faces its final preparation for the 2020 season, with testing getting underway at Phillip Island ahead of this weekend's season opener. Despite brisk winds, the World Supersport class got the best of the weather on Monday, with rookie and Moto2 refugee Andrea Locatelli taking a clear lead at the top of the timesheets.

Two MV Agusta's followed Locatelli's Yamaha, three tenths back. Randy Krummenacher took second spot, ahead of teammate Raffaele De Rosa, while Isaac Viñales, cousin to MotoGP's Maverick and also on a Yamaha, ended the test in fourth. Lucas Mahias was the first Kawasaki on the timesheets, finishing fifth overall, half a second behind Locatelli.

Qatar MotoGP Test Sunday Final Times: Quartararo Leads Rins And Viñales

Fabio Quartararo has topped the second day of the Qatar MotoGP test, the Petronas Yamaha rider edging ever closer to the 1'53 bracket. Franco Morbidelli put on a strong display once again, ending the day in fourth, just ahead of Pecco Bagnaia on the second Pramac Ducati. Johann Zarco impressed on the Avintia Ducati GP19, the Frenchman half a second off Quartararo, and a few hundredths behind Bagnaia.

Joan Mir was seventh quickest on the Suzuki GSX-RR, finishing slightly ahead of Andrea Dovizioso, the first Factory Ducati rider home. Valentino Rossi was ninth quickest, while Takaaki Nakagami was the fastest of the Honda riders on the 2019 Honda RC213V.

Qatar MotoGP Test Sunday 6pm Times: Bagnaia Takes Over As Marquez Crashes

Pecco Bagnaia has taken over at the top of the timesheets as the test heads into darkness. The Pramac Ducati rider put in a quick lap to take over at the top, pushing the two Suzukis into second and third place. Qatar is a good track for Bagnaia, the Italian youngster being quick at this test here last year.

Alex Rins leads the battle of the Suzuki Ecstar teammates, six hundredths of a second behind Bagnaia, and three hundredths ahead of Joan Mir. Maverick Viñales is currently fourth fastest, a fraction faster than Andrea Dovizioso on the factory Ducati.

Marc Marquez, currently eleventh, took a tumble at Turn 9, badly damaging his bike in the crash. Fortunately for reigning champion, he escaped without injury.
