Results and summary of qualifying for the Moto2 class at Sepang:
Thomas Luthi has taken his first pole position of the season, putting in a fast lap in the final minutes of the session to depose championship leader Stefan Bradl. Bradl will start from 2nd, with Michele Pirro rounding out the front row in 3rd. Pirro's Gresini teammate Yuki Takahashi could not quite make it onto the front row, setting the 4th fastest time just behind Pirro, while the Espargaro brothers will start from 5th and 6th, Pol fractionally quicker on the FTR than his older brother Aleix on the Kalex.
After having missed all three sessions of free practice, Marc Marquez took to the track during qualifying, despite the pain in his neck and shoulder which were damaged in the FP1 crash. Marquez did just one flying lap, sufficient to set a qualifying time, and returned to the pits, still obviously in a lot of pain. The Spaniard will start from 36th tomorrow, if he decides to start, in an attempt to prevent Bradl from taking the title at Sepang. Bradl has to win the race at Sepang to have any chance of being crowned champion in Malaysa, but with Marquez trailing the German by 3 points, the Spaniard can take the championship decision to Valencia by finishing at least 13th. Under normal circumstances, Marquez should be capable of doing that, but in the shape that Marquez is in at the moment, it could be too much to ask. He may have to hope that Luthi can win at Sepang on Sunday to keep his title hopes alive.
