After a very mediocre FP1 this morning, Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo grabbed the afternoon session of practice for the MotoGP class at Misano by the throat and set a scorching pace, taking another couple of tenths off Casey Stoner's time from this morning and breaking into the 1'33s with a lap of 1'33.929. Stoner pushed hard to respond, taking a tenth off his own best time from this morning, but only managing the 2nd fastest time just outside the 1'33s, while his Repsol Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa ended the session in 3rd after leading through the early stages.
San Carlo Gresini Honda's Marco Simoncelli also improved his time from by half a second, sneaking ahead of Yamaha's Ben Spies and the third Repsol man Andrea Dovizioso. Alvaro Bautista's impressive run also continues, the Rizla Suzuki rider finishing the session in 7th just over a second behind Lorenzo, and ahead of his former 250cc rival Hector Barbera on the Mapfre Aspar Ducati. Hiroshi Aoyama ended FP2 in 9th, ahead of Monster Tech 3's Colin Edwards, while Valentino Rossi finished the session in 11th, 1.4 seconds slower than his former teammate. Rossi's improvement came right at the very end of the session, the Italian languishing near the bottom of the timesheets for most of FP2.
