Local boy Jakub Smrz has struck the first blow at his home round of World Superbikes at Brno, the Effenbert Liberty Ducati rider topping the timesheets in the first session of free practice. Aprilia's Max Biaggi set the 2nd fastest time, after swapping places with Yamaha's Marco Melandri and Suzuki's Michel Fabrizio throughout much of the session, the two Italians ending in 3rd and 4th respectively. Smrz' teammate Sylvain Guintoli took 5th, ahead of the second Aprilia of Leon Camier and the Althea Ducati of championship leader Carlos Checa.
The 3 Ducatis in the top 7 will give Checa hope of limiting the damage in Sunday's races, at a track where horsepower is crucial, giving an expected advantage to the four cylinders, especially to his main rival Max Biaggi.

There's a man that deserves a victory
What better place for Kuba to do it than at home on one of the worlds great tracks. I'd love to see his name still up there come Sunday.
What about Vermeulen?
Glad to see Guintoli with the 5th time, hopefully his test on the Pramac Ducati did not make hime lose his confidence.
