Results and summary of the Moto2 race at Catalunya:
Stefan Bradl has taken his third victory of the year, winning the Catalunya Moto2 race in convincing fashion.
Bradl took the lead straight off the line, and though he was challenged early by Julian Simon, the Aspar rider even taking the lead from the German in the early laps, once the Viessmann Kiefer rider had got the lead back he took charge of the race. Edging slowly away from the chasing group, Bradl went on to win by a comfortable margin.
That chasing group saw a lot of the best action in the race. Once Julian Simon lost touch with Bradl, he fell back into the clutches of Aleix Espargaro, and while the two men scrapped, the Technomag CIP pairing of Kenan Sofuoglu and Dominique Aegerter closed, Sofuoglu passing Aegerter to lead the chase. The foursome soon became five, as Marc Marquez also closed to join the ranks.
What looked like being a fierce battle ensued, with Sofuoglu passing first Espargaro, and then going on to challenge Simon. The Technomag man challenged a little too hard, as it happened, clipping Simon's rear wheel land sending the Mapfre Aspar man flying, tumbling through the gravel and then clipped by Sofuoglu's bike. The World Supersport champion immediately acknowledged his error, rushing across to apologize to Simon as the Spaniard hung over the fence receiving medical attention. Apologies were in order, as Simon broke both bones his left lower leg.
The incident between Simon and Sofuoglu settled the podium battle finally, the gaps opened up only growing larger. Marc Marquez went on to take 2nd place at his home race, finishing ahead of Aleix Espargaro, who had made a mistake earlier and lost a lot of ground to Marquez.
With Simon crashing out, and probably ruled out for the next two races at the very least, and Iannone only managing to score a single point in 15th, Bradl's victory gives him a commanding lead in the championship. And with nobody in a real position to challenge him at the moment, things are looking very good for the German.
