2011 World Supersport Monza Race Result: Dominant Victory Sealed In Early Laps

Results and summary of the World Supersport race from Monza:

Chaz Davies has taken victory for the second World Supersport race in a row, sealing a dominant weekend at Monza with a win.

Davies had topped every single session of practice for the World Supersport class, including morning warmup. So when the lights dimmed for the start, it was no surprise that it was Davies hit the Prima Variante chicane first. Nor was it much of a surprise when he had pulled nearly a second lead by the time they crossed the line at the end of the first lap, and close to two seconds by the end of lap two. Davies was not to be denied at Monza, and the ParkinGO Yamaha rider went on to take victory unchallenged.

The nearest man was Davies' teammate Luca Scassa. The Italian got a strong start after a difficult qualifying session, and was up into 2nd before the end of the first lap. Like Davies, Scassa was untouchable, taking 2nd behind his teammate with a similarly large gap back to 3rd.

If the battle for the first two places was nonexistent, there was a little more of a tussle for 3rd. Kawasaki's Broc Parkes held the position for the first couple of laps, but he faced fierce competition from the Ten Kate Hondas of Fabien Foret and Florian Marino, as well as the Parkalgar Honda of Sam Lowes. But by lap 5, the group had shaken itself out, and Foret had 3rd firmly in his grasp, dropping the chasing group to secure the final podium spot.

The entertainment in an otherwise dull race came in the scrap for 4th, Parkes coming out on top after holding off an admirable effort by the injured Lowes, the young Briton with his collarbone still fractured in several places after his crash in Assen, while Roberto Tamburini edged ahead of Florian Marino. The battle for 8th was even better, though even more meaningless, with between six and eight riders involved, David Salom winning that particular encounter.

The results see Davies and his teammate Scassa tied with 70 points at the top of the championship, with Parkes just 10 points behind the pair.
