2010 Phillip Island Moto2 Qualifying Practice Result - Last-Minute Dash Steals Pole

Results and summary of Moto2 qualifying at Phillip Island:

Alex de Angelis will start tomorrow's Moto2 race from pole position, the JIR Motobi ride snatching the top spot from Marc VDS Racing's Scott Redding. Redding had looked a strong bet to take his first ever pole position, leading throughout most of qualifying, but on the final lap of the session, as the pair followed each other round the spectacular Phillip Island circuit, De Angelis got the best of the tows and shot his way to pole.

Viessmann Kiefer's Stefan Bradl took 3rd spot on the grid, equaling his best qualifying of the year - though the omens are not good, for both previous times Bradl qualified 3rd, he has not finished the race - while Mapfre Aspar's Mike di Meglio scored his first ever front-row start in Moto2, also out-qualifying his teammate Julian Simon for the first time all year. Simon could only manage the 6th fastest time in qualifying, while newly-crowned Moto2 champion Toni Elias qualified even worse, and will start from 9th on Sunday.

Presuming that the fickle finger of fate doesn't play a hand in 125 and GP tomorrow, come rain or shine,Moto 2 should deliver the most excitement. Those were real Mike di Meglio conditions and it shows with his front row start.

Good to see Wayne Maxwell qualify in P11..... Considering he's never ridden a Moto 2 bike and compete's in the Australian Superbike series, it's a huge achievement for him.

Also, he was P2 in morning warm-up........... If it rains, I would tip him making the podium. That is if he isn't taken out at the first corner!!!

.....oh, and Stoner was nearly 2 seconds quicker than the next best (Simoncelli) in morning warm-up.

About this guy Maxwell, he was flying in warmup and looked good on Saturday.
Yes I think Stoner will run away with this race Rain or Shine. Laying those big black marks all over the track looks really cool.
