Warm up took place on a wet track, punctuated by a very brief downpour. Andrea Dovizioso was the quickest man of the morning, leading his Repsol Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa by over a second and a half. Marlboro Ducati's Casey Stoner lapped in exactly the same time as Pedrosa, but few fast laps put him 3rd.
The wet conditions caused a lot of people to be extra cautious. After his crash yesterday, Valentino Rossi had already said that he would be very conservative if it rained. Given his 16th place, the Italian was being doubly careful during warm up. Marco Simoncelli was less cautious, and paid the price. The San Carlo Gresini Honda rider went out on slicks at the end of the session, and crashed.
