Results and summary of the 125cc race at Brno:
Nico Terol has made an astonishing comeback from injury, taking a devastating victory in the 125cc race at Brno. The Bancaja Aspar rider - returning to action after fracturing a vertebra at Barcelona - slotted in behind Tuenti Derbi's Efren Vazquez and Red Bull Ajo's Marc Marquez off the line, but would brook no competition. Terol was past Marquez at the end of the first lap, and took the lead from Vazquez a lap later, and just disappeared. Lapping over two seconds faster than the chasing pack, he had a huge margin by the halfway mark, and could afford to manage his pace all the way home. Terol finished with over 20 seconds advantage over the nearest rider.
While the battle for victory was effectively over after lap 2, the remaining podium places took the entire race to settle. Once passed by Terol, Efren Vazquez seemed to have a comfortable gap, but over the course of five laps, his Tuenti Derbi teammate Pol Espargaro hunted him down and caught him. He was past on lap 8, but could not leave Vazquez, the two teammates lapping together.
They were soon caught by Tito Rabat on the Blusens Aprilia, and Rabat set about harrying the two Derbis. Passing was not easy, but Rabat succeeded going into the first corner on lap 17. Vazquez attempts to counterattack stranded in the gravel, the Derbi rider crashing out at Turn 13 on the penultimate lap. Espargaro held on to take 2nd - and score some valuable points on his title rival Marc Marquez.
Marquez, still smarting from his the shoulder he dislocated on Friday, went slowly backward from the start of the race. But the Spaniard rode a carefully defensive race, settling for the points available. He was forced to allow former Red Bull Rookies Jonas Folger and Jakub Kornfeil past early in the race, while Bradley Smith - who had gone steadily backwards in the early part, fought his way forward again to secure 6th. With Marquez 7th place finish, Espargaro has closed the gap from 26 to 15 points. The title race is now a good deal closer.
