Dani Pedrosa ruled the second session of free practice for the MotoGP class at Silverstone. The Repsol Honda waited until the last quarter of FP2 to put in the fastest lap of the weekend so far, and the first man to get under 2'05 at the Silverstone circuit. Pedrosa finished ahead of LCR Honda's Randy de Puniet, the Frenchman determined to make an impression in the UK, and Fiat Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo. Marlboro Ducati's Casey Stoner was 4th quickest, ending the session just ahead of Andrea Dovizioso, the Repsol Honda rider the last of the riders to finish within a second of Pedrosa.
The session was marred by a number of crashes, the tarmac changes and overnight rain catching several riders out, though none were seriously injured. Andrea Dovizioso, Ben Spies, Marco Simoncelli and Hector Barbera all went down during FP2, with Barbera coming off worst, the engine of the Spaniard's Pagina Amarillas Ducati GP10 continuing to run for a long time as it sat on its side, the cutoff switch failing to kill the engine. Running with no oil flow is likely to have been terminal for Barbera's Ducati, cutting his engine allocation by one.
