2010 Mugello 125cc Qualifying Practice Result - Last Minute Lap Takes Pole By A Fraction

Results and summary of qualifying for the 125cc class:

Sandro Cortese will start from pole for the Italian 125cc Grand Prix at Mugello on Sunday, after just edging Pol Espargaro from the top of the timesheets. The Avant Mitsubishi Derbi rider put in a fast lap in the dying seconds of practice to displace the man who has dominated all weekend. Espargaro had dominated for most of the session, but the Tuenti Derbi rider suffered a big highside with ten minutes in the session left, landing heavily on his back, but emerged miraculously unscathed. The time Espargaro had already set was good enough to secure 2nd place, though, by a comfortable margin.

The front row is completed by the Bancaja Aspar riders, Bradley Smith and Nico Terol. The good news for the British rider is he is ahead of his teammate for the first time in a long while, the Aspar team seemingly having found a fix for his early season problems. STIPA Molenaar's Randy Krummenacher heads up row two, ahead of Red Bull Derbi's Marc Marquez, the Blusens Aprilia of Esteve Rabat and Espargaro's teammate, Efren Vazquez. Like his teammate, Vazquez also suffered a highside, but came off considerably worse than Espargaro. It is as yet unknown whether Vazquez will compete on Sunday.

Wow, this could make for a interesting 125 race. This track seems to always have good small bike races, with all the drafting that can take place.
