2009 Indianapolis MotoGP Race Result - Crashes Shake Up Championship

Results and summary of Indianapolis MotoGP race:

Jorge Lorenzo took victory at the 2nd Red Bull Indianapolis MotoGP race, after the two race leaders crashed out. Dani Pedrosa went down in the penultimate corner on lap 4, while Valentino Rossi went down travelling fast into Turn 2 some 8 laps later. Both men got back on, but Pedrosa's luck held and Rossi's did not, and a lap later, Rossi pulled into the pits and out of the race.

Lorenzo finished ahead of Alex de Angelis and Nicky Hayden, though Hayden was made to work very hard to hold off a charging Andrea Dovizioso on the last couple of laps. Both podium finishers really needed these results, as De Angelis is without a contract, and Hayden needed a good result to persuade Ducati to allow him to stay.

But the prime beneficiary is Jorge Lorenzo, who closes the gap to Valentino Rossi by 25 points, from 50 to 25. Suddenly, the championship is in reach again.

Dear Motogp/FIM,

Please do not ever allow Fox to broadcast a race again. Those of us who are fans actually enjoy watching the RACING!

Sincerely,

Dave Edmondson

The only thing you can blame on Fox was the commentating. The Camera Coverage was bad on Motogp.com too... just horrible!

My internet connection couldn't stream the race properly or I would have watched it online. I'll bet motogp.com didn't interrupt the coverage to show a set of leathers and explain how an airbag system is being developed. And this while the racing was going on. Fox sux.

heh, I spent an hour carting my PC out to the room with the tv and snaked long ethernet wires from the cable-modem to the router, then finally JUST BARELY to my pc, and watched the motogp.com live stream on my flat-screen tv because I KNEW fox would be atrocious. Glad my fears were confirmed. I just wish the motogp commentators had greater influence on the camera control, I mean when someone's just riding all alone, and there's an epic battle going on for 2nd, 3rd, 8th, even 12th (random examples), don't spend all the time on the guy by himself!!

Don't blame Fox,? the whole thing was horrible except for the few moments of good racing that was captured. I run a business and understand the whole economic perspective but you can't say they didn't make money with ALL THOSE COMMERCIALS. No back story leading in to help bring in new fans, no post race stuff to capture the true emotion and further convince viewers of the relevance of our American rounds and the need for American riders in this series. The airtime/media Kevin Schwantz got leading into this race bothered me but now without much promotion of current/meaningful aspects it's a miracle they've come this far. Greg White should be selling used cars!

Blame who you want.
Just saying the coverage from Motogp.com sucked too. Commentating was fine... just bad camera coverage.

Guess anything is better than Fox....

Thank you Fox - I wasn't planning on coming back to Indy for a third year in 2010, but now I am. I don't want to see my texting bill for today, keeping a few of my friends better informed of what was going on then the television broadcast.

Just to keep things even: Those at the Speedway got their own purgatory AFTER the race. The town has a wonderful crowd control system for getting everyone out of town and on the Interstate immediately.

God help you if you're staying in town one more night and just want to get back to your motel. We had to run the police barracade a block from the motel to get in the parking lot.

As a first time visitor to the IMS I figured I'd give the good and not-so-good of my experience at Indianapolis and IMS specifically:

The Good:

1.Hearing Toby Moody's voice over the PA. I'll never tire of him saying "propa rodeo!"

2. Turns 7, 8, 9 leading into the back straight.

3. Free infield parking

4. The international crowd. Smiling faces everywhere.

5. Kevin Shwantz taking a few laps on the RGV and seeing Wayne Rainey outside of Laguna Seca.

6. The 125 and 250 races.

7. Dani Pedrosa picking off riders after dropping his ride.

8. Nicky Hayden fighting off a hard charging Andrea Dovizioso for third.

9. Alex de Angelis scoring a strong second.

10. The Hall of Fame Museum

11. Helpful and friendly racetrack staff--everyone was approachable and was able to help with any queries.

12. The Union Jack Pub. Great racing atmosphere and quality pizza and wings.

The Not-So-Good:

1. Ralph Sheehan (file under absolute crap). The guy shouldn't be allowed to have a mic shoved anywhere near his face. His comment about pit crews prepping riders' secondary bikes just in case was laughable. I'm glad Toby showed him how stupid that comment was.

2. The concession prices. Ouch!

3. Have I said Ralph Sheehan already?

I think the IMS is a great venue for motorcycle racing judging from the crowd on the inner portion of the track near the Red Bull Bridge. Really, the only thing that would make the course great would be to add elevation changes to the track (probably impossible but everything else is a keeper).

I'll be definitely coming back next year.
