Results and summary of the 125cc race at Donington:
Julian Simon walked away the winner of the 125cc race at Donington, after rain had caused the first half of the race to be red-flagged on the 15th lap of the race. Pol Espargaro had been leading when the red flag was waved, with a close group containing Marc Marquez, Julian Simon, Sergio Gadea and Bradley Smith chasing. The rain which had been threatening from the dark clouds over Donington finally broke on lap 14, causing a spate of crashes and convincing race direction to stop the race.
With less than two thirds of the race run, a new race was scheduled of the minimum of 5 laps proscribed by the FIM rule book. In the second of the races, Bradley Smith took better advantage of his 5th place restart than the pole position during the first part of the race, shooting to the front at the bottom of Craner Curves. His, and the crowd's, joy was not to last, however, as Smith crashed in the tricky conditions at Coppice, rejoining down in 20th position.
Smith's exit left KTM's Marc Marquez in charge, and after briefly ceding the lead to Simone Corsi, Marquez was straight back. But the lead was not to last for Marquez either, as on lap 4 out of 5, the Spaniard crashed out at the Fogarty Esses, handing the lead back to Corsi. Julian Simon, who had been biding his time, pounced on Corsi on the final lap, leaving the Italian no option but to accept 2nd place. Scott Redding soothed the pain the local fans felt of Bradley Smith's crash by taking the final spot on the podium.
The race was a warning to the 250 and MotoGP riders, as the track was incredibly slick even before the rain started falling, with 6 riders going down at the Foggy Esses on the very first lap.
