Results and summary of World Superbike race 2 at Donington:
Ben Spies took another dominant win at Donington Park, his tenth of the season and the third double of the year. Spies led from the exit of the first corner, and took off from the front again. Behind Spies, the race turned into a crashfest, as the warmer temperatures made the track slicker. Max Biaggi was the first to go, sliding out simply at Melbourne, then almost punting Blake Young off as he rejoined the race. On the next lap, it was the turn of Noriyuki Haga, the Xerox Ducati man having a nasty crash at Coppice, the bike tumbling and landing on top of him. Haga was lucky to be able to walk away, but he did so clearly in severe pain.
With the two protagonists from race 1 out of the picture, the podium battle was left to Leon Haslam, Michel Fabrizio and Shane Byrne, Haslam finally holding off Fabrizio to take 2nd, the Italian forced to settle for 3rd.
Haga's crash has major implications for the title race, as Spies victory clawed back 25 points from Haga's lead, reducing it to just 14 points, a clearly achievable target.
