World Superbike Superpole was cold and windy, but the morning's rain was a distant memories as twenty five riders set out to contest the pole position for this afternoon's race. This would be the first Superpole session for Bradley Ray, the British Superbike champion.
Jonathan Rea opened the session with a 1'33.887 but his teammate Alex Lowes pipped him with a 1'33.741. Rea and Lowes pitted in after their fast lap as Alvaro Bautista used his second lap to get to third place. The provisional second row was an all-Yamaha affair into the tea break, with Andrea Locatelli ahead of Dominique Aegerter and Toprak Razgatlioglu.
With fresh tyres, Jonathan Rea set out well before everyone else, setting a 1'33.668 on an empty track before returning to the pits for a third tyre.
Alvaro Bautista, taking the more traditional two-session route, set a 1'33.542 to go quickest, over a tenth quicker than Rea. Bautista and Rea were both on quick laps as Toprak Razgatlioglu pushed up to second place, knocked down to third place by Rea.
As the flag came out, Bautista and Rea were on hot laps, but the tyres didn't last the whole lap and their previous fastest laps held.
Alvaro Bautista took pole position, ahead of Jonathan Rea and Toprak Razgatlioglu while Alex Lowes headed the second row, alongside Scott Redding and Andrea Locatelli.

Alvaro said he didn’t agree with the three grid place penalty. I assume there wasn’t any footage of the ‘offence’ to show him…
Happend in front of me and rest assure, he deserved a penalty, as did Bassani. When you come out of the pits, look behind, see 2 fast guys coming and still go and sit on the racing line, you’re an ass…
