SALOM WINS IN MALAYSIA IN ONE OF CLOSEST FINISHES IN 2013 MOTO3
Luis Salom of the Red Bull KTM Ajo factory team on Sunday pulled off a victory in Malaysia that was one of the hardest fought and closest of the current season to extend his lead in the World Championship points.
The Spanish rider, whose win gives him seven for the current season acknowledged that it had been a tough fight after he sealed the race in the final corner of the sweeping Sepang circuit. “This was incredible,” he said. “I think it was the toughest race this year but I the final lap was really beautiful,” Salom said after the race.
Salom started on pole but the 18-lap race soon evolved into an encounter with the usual suspects who are rivals for the championship title – the three other lead Spanish riders Alex Rins, Alex Marquez and Maverick Vinales all on KTM Moto3 racing machines. But when it came to the crunch it was Salom’s finely tuned race craft and his brave late braking in the final corner that gave him the win. All 14 rounds in the 2013 season have been won on KTM machines by Salom, Rins or Vinales and all five lead riders in the points are on KTM-driven machines with Jonas Folger of Germany following Salom, Rins, Vinales and Marquez riding the Kalex-KTM.
Vinales, the only current Moto3 rider to have won in Sepang (in 2011) shot from ninth on the grid at the start and was a major player during the race only to lose out in the final corners. While 14 points now separate Salom and Rins, Vinales, a pre-season favorite for the title, now has a deficit of 26 points to the leader and only three races remaining to get back in the action.
Rins had much to gain as he went into the final corner. He fought hard and fast for what might have been his third consecutive victory this season and acknowledged that his teammare Alex Marquez had helped him during the race.“The race was so difficult. I was first in the last lap but finally he (Salom) passed me in the last corner.”
Had Rins finished in front of Salom he would have tied with the championship leader in the points as the competition goes down to the wire. The final three rounds will be in in Australia, Japan and Valencia.
It was a disappointing weekend for Salom’s KTM factory teammate and home-town favorite Zulfahmi Khairuddin, who last year thrilled his fans by taking his first podium here in Sepang. Fahmi fractured his wrist in the last round in Aragon, Spain and was initially declared fit to race. He rode in the qualifying but on race day he was declared unfit and was a non-starter. Arthur Sissis, the third rider in the Red Bull KTM Ajo factory team finished back in 19th place.
Moto3 riders reconvene next weekend in Phillip island, Australia for Round 15 of the 17-round season.

A spectacular battle for victory in Moto3 kicked off the Malaysian Grand Prix. The race saw a 13-strong group of riders at the head of the field, only reducing in numbers at the midway stage. The title contenders were the standouts in an epic contest.
After Luis Salom had imposed a fierce pace, Rins and Marquez took turns to lead the race. Past halfway in the battle, the frontrunners had whittled down to five riders: Salom, Rins and Marquez, plus Maverick Viñales and Miguel Oliveira. There were passes galore on the final laps, with Salom eventually holding off Rins down the home straight to take the victory by 0.069s. Marquez was fourth, 0.782s behind the race winner.
Following this race, Rins remains second in the overall standings, 14 points behind Salom. Alex Marquez continues in fourth place.

“We finished second, taking a deserved podium after a weekend of hard work. Together with the team we improved the bike a lot between yesterday and today and I felt very comfortable in the race. It was very fun; it’s been a long time since we had such a large group at the front. We had a lot of riders at the front, but fortunately by the end some of those who were challenging in the early stages had dropped back. I went first on the final straight, as I believed that it would be difficult for anyone to pass me at that point. I tried to close the door by going as far left as I could, but still Salom overtook me. I tried to brake later, but it wasn’t to be and I finished second. In any case, we are very happy with the result and we shall see what happens at Phillip Island."

“The weekend has been a bit difficult, because on Friday we could not ride too much due to a crash. Yesterday we took a step forward, but were not expecting to be in the leading group today, fighting with the fastest riders. With four or five laps to go I turned to look back, and that lost me some focus and I was passed. On the righthanders I lost a bit of time because I lacked some arm strength, but after a complicated weekend I think we've done well. Now we go to Phillip Island, a circuit that I like."

Luis Salom took the win at Sepang in a thrilling Moto3 race, decided by a double overtake on the final corner. The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider claimed another victory and increased his advantage in the overall standings to 14 points. Arthur Sissis took nineteenth place, whilst Zulfahmi Khairuddin was declared unfit to race due to his right wrist injury.
Salom’s pace was fierce on the opening laps, as part of a group of twelve frontrunners. With three laps remaining he tried to take the initiative, although it was not until the final corner that the win would be decided. The Spaniard exchanged overtakes with Alex Rins, concluding 0.069s ahead of his rival at the chequered flag.
Arthur Sissis was not so fortunate. He took off from row six and was riding in the points when a clip from another rider on lap 2 took him off track. Despite this, Sissis did not throw in the towel and worked hard to place nineteenth.
After making a titanic effort to overcome pain in his right wrist all weekend, Zulfahmi Khairuddin was eventually withdrawn from his home race. The Malaysian rider was suffering a lot from his recently operated appendage, and was declared unfit for the race following the warmup. He hopes to return to action at Phillip Island.
With three races to go before the conclusion of the 2013 season, Salom leads the World Championship with 284 points. He is 14 ahead of Rins in second. Zulfahmi Khairuddin lies tenth with 50 points, whilst Sissis is twelfth with 59.

"Today did not go too well. I made a good start, but then on the first corner there was a big tussle. I was able to overtake some riders who were riding a little crazy and started to catch the group ahead. However, on the last corner another rider hit me pretty hard and I went off track. I broke the fairing and after that I could no longer ride fast. Now I have to keep looking ahead to my home race at Phillip Island."
"I am very sad, because we worked so hard since last week along with the medical team in order to contest the race, but it was not possible. On Friday and Saturday the pain was a lot less than 10 days ago, but this morning when I put on my gloves I saw that was it much worse. I could not hold the bike well and couldn’t loosen my grip after braking, so after my last visit to the Clinica Mobile it was decided that the best thing to do was sit out the race in order to be fitter for the next round.
I want to thank all the people who have supported me these last few days and apologise for not being able to ride at my home Grand Prix, but this was the best solution –taking into account the condition I was in. I hope to come back strong at Phillip Island."
"It was a beautiful race, perhaps one of the best I've seen in my life. We know that the Sepang International Circuit is very nice, with a very wide track, and that it is a place at which it is always nice to race. But we also know that races here usually feature groups and that there are usually great battles on the final laps, because the track is so wide that it allows you to use many different tracks. I am very happy for Luis [Salom], because he has done it again. The last two races have not been his best of the year, but neither were they too bad, so I'm very happy that he was able to stay focused –despite the comments of people who doubted him. For a rider trying to win a World Championship, it is important to be able to handle the pressure. He did so perfectly.
Arthur [Sissis] had some problems during the race, as he was clipped by another rrider. Next weekend he has his home race and last year he was on the podium in Australia, so I’m sure he is very keen to show his potential at Phillip Island.
Unfortunately, Fahmi [Zulfahmi Khairuddin] could not participate in the race. Both he and the team have done everything possible so that he could start, but also you have to understand that not long ago he underwent his operation and this morning the pain in his wrist was too great."

A difficult Saturday, a better Sunday. While yesterday Brad Binder qualified 23rd, and Luca Amato 30th, in today's race the South African classified 11th, - having been 10th for quite a while - and the German 20th, pushing and fighting until the finish line.
Good start by Binder, but quite a moment and places lost at the first corner. In the following laps, he has been able to better his position and, at a pace of 2'15”5, made the most out of the race, reaching a position close to the top ten.
Good start by Luca: from mid-race onward, his position fluctuated between 15th and 20th, up and down almost every lap.
Brad Binder (40'53.537 - 11th ) “Good start, but at turn one I had a collision, lost quite a few places and the chance to stay with the top riders. In the following laps I tried my best - I closed the gap and, at a point, I was in tenth position. Tires dropped, and I had to slow down, losing a place. Anyway, 23rd in qualifying and 11th in the race is not bad”.
Luca Amato (41'17.681 - 20th) “A good race, I would say. I enjoyed it. Today I was in a better shape, and the bike also was in better shape. I could do even better, but I had had a hard fight against a rider who was faster than me on the straight, while I was stronger in the corners. Fighting one against the other, we lost precious time. Anyway, I'm happy with my race. I'm convinced we can get a good result next, at Phillip Island, which is a track that should suit us better”.
Fiorenzo Caponera (Team Principal) “Quite clearly, our result in qualifying was not true. We deserved better. Brad could qualify within the top ten and, from that place, fight for a front position in the race. Unfortunately, he crashed precisely when the track was quickly drying up, and lap times were half a second faster every lap. Today he did a great race and, pushing all the way to close the gap with the front, at the end had to struggle with his soft tire. Luca enjoyed the race, and I'm quite happy with that, because that's the way, for him, that can lead to further progress”.
JONAS FOLGER TAKES EIGHTH AT SEPANG
MAPFRE Aspar rider battles hard but suffers from premature tyre wear. Eric Granado concludes 24th after a second lap crash
At 1pm today the Sepang circuit held a whirlwind Moto3 race. The Malaysian track had a record attendance of 80,000 spectators in the stands to witness a great contest. In the first half of the race, eight riders featured in the leading group. Overtaking created a great show, but it also but slowed the pace considerably in the contest. The new lap record of 2.14.339 was considerably slower than the pole time set yesterday: 2.13.280. Salom , Rins and Márquez were the only three riders to lead the race, but it was hard to pick a winner from the six riders challenging for glory on the final lap. Salom snatched the win at the final corner, followed by Rins and Oliveira.
Jonas Folger also contributed to making the Moto3 show at Sepang an exciting show. The MAPFRE Aspar rider, starting from tenth on the grid, was confident of making a comeback through the field. After a clean getaway he completed the first lap in eighth place, and fought with whoever stood in his way as he looked to keep up with the leaders. Unfortunately his effort meant that his tyres went off early and he was forced to slow down at the midway point of the race due to a lack of grip. Despite this, and his riding with a left foot still on the mend from injury, he took eighth.
His teammate, Eric Granado, also got a good start. He was sixteenth after lap 1 and was confident about remaining in the points. However, a crash on lap 2 deprived him of reaching his goal. He picked his bike back up, rejoined the race and placed 24th.
8th Jonas Folger: "The race was very hard for me. I had a bad foot coming into the race and today it took its toll. I made a pretty good start, and from the opening moment I pushed hard to stay in the leading group. I risked a lot, and that made the front end work more than normal. I tried to brake very late to gain positions, and at first I was incisive. So then I pushed the front forks too much. Consequently I noticed that gradually the front tyre started to lose grip. I tried changing my riding style and being smoother, but gradually I could feel the front suspension losing performance was not as responsive under braking. Even so, I'm satisfied because I gave all I could. I hope to be fully recovered from my ankle injury in Australia and able to ride in normal conditions. This week we will discuss how we can improve both the bike and myself, to be more competitive in Australia."
24th Eric Granado: "Today I got a good start, and at the start of the race I was very comfortable riding as part of a group. I was convinced that I could complete the whole race riding in the pack, my intention was to stay put and claim points. On the second lap, on the corner before the straight, I tried to overtake another rider, but I got on the brakes too late, we touched and I couldn’t avoid a crash. It’s a shame, as I wanted to conclude the weekend with a good result to thank the team for all their hard work. Luckily I was able to pick the bike up and get back on track to finish the race. In the end, despite the crash, I leave Sepang feeling good -because we worked a lot and learnt a lot."

Avant Tecno KTM rider takes 4 points from Malaysian GP after finishing twelfth

The Sepang International Circuit today hosted the 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix –the fourteenth round of the season. In it, Niklas Ajo made a good showing, completing the eighteen laps in twelfth position and adding four more points to his tally in the overall standings.
Niklas Ajo was able to put events at the Aragon Grand Prix behind him today with a hard fought twelfth place. The Avant Tecno KTM rider, who started from fourteenth position on the grid, was quickly up into the leading group of twelve riders –who remained together throughout the first third of the race. As the laps went by, Niklas was relegated to the second group in a fight for ninth place. Eventually tyre wear took its toll, but the Finn was still able to complete the race –twelfth– in the points. Luis Salom was the winner of the Malaysian GP.
Following this latest race, just three rounds remain in the 2013 season. Niklas Ajo lies fifteenth overall with 47 points. The next race takes place next weekend, at Australia’s Phillip Island circuit.

"I think that from the start it was quite a good race. It's true that in the end I lost a lot of time and I'm a little disappointed with that, but nevertheless, during the opening laps I was up there with the leading group. At the end of the race my tyres were completely spent, so we may have to look for a new setup or a change in my riding style to rectify this issue. The weekend overall was not bad, so I'm happy."
Kent equals career best Moto2 finish in searing Sepang heat
A record Malaysian Grand Prix crowd witnessed Tech 3 Racing Team rider Danny Kent equal his career best Moto2 World Championship result today in a restarted race at the spectacular Sepang International Circuit.
The British rider claimed a fantastic 12th position in a battle that was shortened from the original 19-lap distance to 12 laps following a multi-rider first lap accident that gave Race Direction no option but to halt proceedings.
Once the action got underway again in physically demanding heat that saw air temperatures nudge over the 30 degree mark, Kent made a brilliant start from 16th to fight his way to the brink of the top 10 on the opening lap.
He dropped back to his starting position but then mounted a superb counter attack that thrust him back to the head of an exciting five-rider tussle involving former Moto3 adversary Sandro Cortese, Anthony West, Ricky Cardus and Marcel Schrotter.
Kent remained ice cool under pressure and rode an immaculate final few laps to keep the group behind him to score points in successive races for the first time on the French designed and built Mistral 610 machine.
An aggressive start was also pivotal in helping Louis Rossi enjoy one of his best performances in the second half of the 2013 Moto2 World Championship.
Starting from 22nd, the French rider was able to set a fast and consistent rhythm to move quickly inside the top 20. He continued to move forward in the rankings and climbed into 17th, but just ran out of time in his bid to make a pass on home crowd favourite Hafizh Syahrin.
Today’s race was the third race in succession that Rossi has finished inside the top 20 and he is looking to mount a strong challenge for the points scoring places next weekend at the magnificent Phillip Island track in Australia.
Danny Kent 12th – 12 points:
“I am really happy to get back in the points and it was good to get a better position than Sandro because he has been my benchmark all season after we moved up together from Moto3. It was a really good battle with a strong group behind me and I am content that I kept my pace consistent without giving anybody the chance to take 12th off me. I think I could have pulled away from the pack but all weekend I’ve been having some issue with brake fade and it happened again in the race, so I had to change my style and it took me a few laps to adapt. But I am pleased and I enjoyed being in a fight and I can look forward to another strong race in Australia, which is a track I like.”
Louis Rossi 17th – 3 points:
“I am happy to have had another strong ride but part of me is also a bit disappointed because I think I could have scored some points. Unfortunately I made a couple of small mistakes in the first laps and I lost contact with the group. I am pleased with how I came back strongly and I kept fighting right to the end. I am close to the points again like in the last couple of races, so now I have to focus on making another step to ensure I finish inside the points at Phillip Island.”
Herve Poncharal – Team Manager:
“I am really happy with the performance of both Danny and Louis this weekend. We know both of them will be leaving Tech 3 Racing at the end of the season but they continue to show incredible professionalism and dedication to getting the best results possible. Danny had a great ride and I think the battle he was in was one of the best in the race and it kept an incredible crowd entertained right to the line. That race should give him some confidence and hopefully Danny can show more of this determination and speed at Phillip Island. Louis was also very strong today and without a couple of mistakes I think he could have been involved in that group fighting with Danny. To see Danny though back in the points and winning a very intense battle including Sandro Cortese, who is our reference point, and Louis also performing well on a tough circuit for rider and machine, we can go to Australia optimistic that the Mistral 610 will be competitive.”
MAPFRE ASPAR RIDERS MAKE BIG EFFORT AT SEPANG
Jordi Torres places ninth, whilst Nico Terol comes back from a third lap crash to claim nineteenth at Malaysian GP
The 2013 Moto2 Malaysian GP featured two starts, as an early crash for Axel Pons which involved four other riders brought out the red flag first time out. On the restart, a shortened 12-lap race featured five fewer riders. Esteve Rabat led the race from start to finish, taking off from pole position and never looking back. He established an early gap, with Pol Espargaró and Thomas Luthi behind him. They would complete the podium, second and third to the runaway winner of the race at Sepang.
The Moto2 restart benefited some riders and harmed others. Jordi Torres, who did not get a great start first time around, took advantage of the second opportunity. The MAPFRE Aspar rider was incisive at the start of the race, keeping up his pace and position. However, as the laps went by he became worried by a lack of tyre grip. He was able to stay upright and finished ninth in Sepang.
Nico Terol's race at Sepang was one of tenacity. He suffered when two riders went down in front of him on the opening corner, losing him time as he swerved to avoid them. It would not be the only time he would have to make a recovery, as on lap 3 he himself crashed after losing the front. The MAPFRE Aspar rider showed determination to pick his bike back up and rejoin the race in last place. He moved up to ninenteenth before the chequered flag.
9th Jordi Torres: "I had a good feeling today in the race. Last year I didn’t enjoy myself at Sepang, because of the immense straight. I came here ready to change the situation. We struggled all weekend to adapt to this track and not lose ground to our rivals. At the beginning of the race we endured the onslaught well, even though halfway through Zarco escaped and I almost crashed when chasing him down. Seeing that the front was beginning to slip about more and more, I dropped the pace a little to avoid any nasty surprises. With two laps to go I caught Nakagami, I observed his riding to see where I could try to pass him, but the truth is that we have reached the end of the race with the tyres almost shot. So I decided not to risk it. This ninth in Sepang, a circuit that is not amongst my favourites, is a small victory for me."
19th Nico Terol: "The last race was perfect, but here we have not received any reward for our effort and hard work. Even though I started from fourteenth, I never threw in the towel. On the first start I got a little stuck and on the second one I got away a little better. At the end of the straight De Angelis and Simeon crashed In front of me and I had to run wide. A lot of rider passed me as a result. I’m happy that I was able to impose a good pace and overtake riders during the race. When I got to the group ahead of me, at the end of the straight I lost the front and went down. After getting back on track I had twisted handlebars to wrestle with and just tried to go at the fastest pace possible. I leave Sepang happy, because I think we did a great job in the race I was incisive. We still have two races in a row to come, so hopefully we can take a better result in Australia."
AMBITIOUS ANTONELLI CRASHES OUT
Niccolò Antonelli's hopes of a top result in the Malaysian Grand Prix ended with a crash today, the Italian youngster paying the price for an over-ambitious attempt to rejoin the lead group after losing contact in the early stages. It was a shame for the Team GO & FUN Gresini Moto3 rider, who had shown great potential here this weekend and qualified on the front row of the grid for the first time in his career. Lorenzo Baldassarri made a good start to the race but didn't have the confidence with his set-up to maintain a good pace to the end.
Niccolò Antonelli (DNF) “I am disappointed but not too down because we know what can happen in racing. Obviously these experiences are things you can draw on in the future. I felt good today and I knew I could be fast but I lost touch with the group, got in a battle with Ajo and then I was trying too hard to close the gap to the guys in front. In hindsight I should have waited, but I was just so convinced that I had the pace to go with them. It is a shame but I will try to learn from the experience in future.”
Lorenzo Baldassarri (23rd) “Up to a certain point in the race I had a good feeling with the bike and I was on the pace of the second group but from then on I was lacking a bit of confidence and I couldn't keep consistent. I almost crashed a couple of times so from that point I was just trying to finish the race without taking too many risks.”
Fausto Gresini “I am disappointed that the race has finished like this because we had high hopes today. It was fun watching the first part of the race when Niccolo was decisive and determined but then he lost contact with the lead group. In trying to catch them up he crashed and it's a shame because he had the potential to fight with them. It has not been an easy weekend for Baldassarri but he fought hard to finish the race and that's a positive to take away.”
Fighting Fourth for Kallio in Malaysia
Sepang, Malaysia - 13 October 2013: Mika Kallio took a hard fought fourth place in a restarted and shortened Malaysian Moto2 Grand Prix, while Scott Redding saw his championship lead reduced to just nine points after he finished seventh today.
Redding got a flyer from tenth on the grid to move into fourth at the first turn, with Kallio in fifth, but the race was red flagged when Axel Pons crashed on the opening lap and started a chain reaction that saw five riders end up in the gravel.
The race was restarted over 12 laps with the riders starting from their original grid positions. Both Marc VDS riders were involved in incidents at turn one, with Kallio pushed wide by Dominique Aegerter charging down the inside and Redding forced to sit up as Xavier Simeon got in too hot and collected Alex De Angelis on his way to the gravel trap.
Kallio lost three places as a result but set a new lap record as he chased hard to close the gap back to the battle for fourth place. The Finn then struggled to find a way past Aegerter, as his late braking style slowed them both. The delay in passing the Swiss rider meant that the 30-year-old Finn was unable to bridge the gap to the battle for second place, which was being fought out between Pol Espargaro and Tom Lüthi
The evasive action required to avoid the turn one crash left Redding down in tenth position, but the 20-year-old Briton had forced his way through into seventh by the end of the opening lap. Redding passed Takaaki Nakagami to take sixth at the halfway point in the race, but was unable to hold off the last lap challenge of Johann Zarco and had to settle for seventh at the chequered flag.
Redding now heads to the next race at Phillip Island determined to go all out for the win, as he seeks to reassert his authority on the championship that he's led for much of the season.
Livio Loi missed out on a points scoring finish by less than one second in today's Malaysian Moto3 Grand Prix, which the 16-year-old Belgian finished in 18th position.
Loi got a good start from 15th on the grid and had moved into 13th position by the end of the first lap. The Marc VDS rider then started to struggle with the bike skipping in the turns, especially under braking on corner entry. Despite his best efforts, the problem meant he was unable to hold off the challenge of those riders behind him and he eventually slipped back to 18th at the chequered flag.
Mika Kallio #36 // 4th
"Our goal here was the podium, so I'm not so happy with fourth position today. In both starts the first few corners were a big problem. I braked as late as possible, but both times Aegerter charged up the inside and pushed me out, losing me a lot of places. I posted the fastest lap of the race to catch them again, but it was really difficult being behind Aegerter. He's so late on the brakes, and so slow mid-corner, it really disrupted my rhythm. By the time I got past him the group ahead was over a second away, so there was no chance to catch them. It's disappointing, because my pace was easily quick enough to run with the front three, but the delay at the start meant I never got the chance to show that"

"Just as I started to tip in to turn one at the restart I saw someone coming through, trying to win the race in the first corner, so I put the anchors on as Simeon wiped out himself and De Angelis in front of me. That was it for me, because to run the same pace as the front-runners on the straights I needed to be with them, like in the first race, not chasing to catch up like at the restart. I did my best, but when you've got two straights back-to-back like this, it's really hard to do anything. No matter how hard I brake, or how much corner speed I carry, I can't make up the losses from the two straights. Now we need to go to Australia and win. At this point in the championship, with just three races remaining, it has to be all or nothing. We've lost points at the last three races, so now is the time to put it on the line and win again."

I have no idea what the cause was, as we haven't had this problem all weekend, only in the race. I expected more given the feeling I had with the bike yesterday, so I'm really disappointed."

"Mika rode a good race to finish fourth today. It's just unfortunate that he got pushed out in the first few corners and then held up for so long by Aegerter, otherwise he could easily have been involved in the battle for second. Scott got a great start first time around but, unfortunately, lost out at the restart because of the crash in front of him in turn one. The important thing is that he kept his head and finished in the points. The championship is much closer now, with just nine points in it, but we knew it was going to be close after these last three races. But, Scott still leads the championship and we head to Australia determined to extend that lead once again. After a good qualifying performance we expected Livio to finish in the points today. He put up a good fight, but again there was an issue with his feeling with the bike, which we need to address ahead of the next race at Phillip Island."

ZARCO CLOSES THE MALAYSIAN GRAND PRIX SIXTH, PETRUCCI 16th IN MOTOGP
SEPANG, 13 October 2013 - The sixth-place finish in the Grand Prix of Malaysia for Johann Zarco is the best result of the CAME Iodaracing Team in the race. Zarco , benefited from the second start of the Moto2 race, managing to make better use of the second row gained yesterday in qualifying.
The Moto2 race, for the record, has undergone a stop for the red flag following a scary incident involving six riders. The first to crash was the Spaniard Axel Pons , whose bike has remained at the center of the track, then hit by the Indonesian driver Fadiis Imammuddin ( MotoBi ). With the arrival of the group, then crashed on bikes scrap also Zarqwan Zaidi ( Suter) , Doni Tata Pradita ( Suter) and Decha Kraisart ( Tech3 ). None of the riders reported serious consequences in the crash.
In the second start, Zarco was better, remaining in the 10 best riders group and managed not to lose contact with the first group of race. Just on the first lad , Zarco was harshly attacked by Dominique Aegerter. This has resulted in further contact with Alex De Angelis, who has unfortunately fallen. In the final laps left, Johann was able to get the better of Scott Redding , managing to overtake him under the finish line in seventh place . After the Malaysian GP, Johann Zarco remains seventh with 123 points in the world championship.
In the MotoGP race Danilo Petrucci and Lukas Pesek, had several problems that prevented them from achieving the desired results. Petrucci , in particular, has suffered the breakage of a bracket for the exhaust system and of the nozzle and for the mineral salts in the helmet. The first problem caused a burn under the right foot and the second flooded the helmet of liquids under braking, creating the risk of crash. At the end Petrucci was able to cross the finish line in sixteenth position. Physical difficulties, finally, for Lukas Pesek forced to retire on lap nine of the race.
JOHANN ZARCO - MOTO2 RIDER - 6th - " I was very lucky this time. The second race of Moto2 made me remedy the disastrous start of race one. This time I managed to do better while remaining attached to the group. I gave up at the start, but I made an entry Aegerter really bad at the first corner and I was moved to De Angelis, who unfortunately has fallen . Due to this contact I lost a few positions that I was then able to recover . In the end I managed to win the duel with Redding and take the sixth position that satisfies me when I think of how it was started the weekend here in Malaysia . "
DANILO PETRUCCI - MOTOGP RIDER - 16th - "This for me was just an unlucky race . In the MotoGP race I was the only one to have chosen the harder tire . On-Grid we saw that the others were standing on the soft , but we preferred not hazard . Then after a few laps broke a relay race exhaust that I had to keep the whole race with one foot and now I have a blister from burning. then in a detached , the solution with the minerals of the "camel back" I received on the peak because I had broken the nozzle that is held in the mouth. Suddenly I could not see anything, luckily I managed to shoot the tube , but I had to drink everything to prevent a recurrence of the problem. Due to these problems are also been recorded by Edwards and Barbera and then I lost the chance to take points. I'm sure it will get better in Australia , that is my track and also last year had gone well".
LUKAS PESEK - MOTOGP RIDER - DNF - "I made a mistake at the start and I had to give my best to resume the group. When I was able to re-link up my energies were finished. This bike is very dry and violent and so I quickly exhausted my strength. I chose to retire rather than risk a crash".
MotoGP Moto3 - Third consecutive Top 10 finish for San Carlo Team Italia FMI in Sepang with Romano Fenati. Strong comeback from Francesco Bagnaia
A spectacular Moto3 race in Sepang saw championship leader Luis Salom win by a narrow margin over Alex Rins and Miguel Oliveira. Romano Fenati (San Carlo Team Italia FMI FTR Honda#5) scored his third consecutive Top 10 finish (and was again the first Italian under the flag) thanks to a comeback through the pack that granted him ninth place. Francesco Bagnaia (San Carlo Team Italia FMI FTR Honda#4) shared a similar race, and despite starting from the last position he was able to climb back to 16th place, missing the Top 15 by only a tenth.

"After the WUP the bike worked very well. I lost some time in the pack during the race, it took me a while to catch Folger, but I'm heading to Australia on a positive mood because the team and I worked well and improved the setup. A better QP is the priority."

"After an unfortunate QP, I was able to fight hard in the race. Despite the traffic, with a perfect bike, I was almost able to score points despite being last on the grid. Almost, but the competition is fierce and we are ready for a rematch."

Romano has shown his usual grit, he really deserves a Top 5 but the circumstances still didn't allow us to live a smooth week-end. NO LUCK FOR PRADITA
An incident that saw a red flag and several riders ruled out of the Moto2 race on the first lap at Sepang also had negative consequences for Doni Tata Pradita. The Indonesian suffered damage to his leg and more significantly to his tyres, which meant he was forced to change to the harder compound.
Doni Tata Pradita (23rd) “On this occasion I was out of luck and it's disappointing because I had a lot of support here. I felt like I was in good shape but unfortunately I suffered some damage to my tyre in the incident that saw the race stopped and we had to change to a hard option, which I didn't like. It is a shame but I will do my best to make up for it at Phillip Island. ”
Fausto Gresini “Doni had the chance to score a good result today but he was out of luck. I am disappointed for him because he deserved to have a little success in front of his fans and he definitely had the potential today. ”
WAROKORN OUT OF CONFIDENCE AT SEPANG
Thitipong Warokorn put on a determined display in front of his numerous Thai fans in the sellout 80,000 crowd at Sepang today but he was unable to pick up the result he was hoping for in the Malaysian Grand Prix, crossing the line in 24th place.

Lonely race for Kornfeil
Jakub Kornfeil finished 13th after a lonely race at Sepang in Malaysia. The RW Racing GP rider lost connection to the first group of riders in the Moto3 race and had to ride on his own for most of the time. His team mate Jasper Iwema crashed out already in the last corner of the first lap.
The Moto3 race of Malaysia was an exciting start of the day and saw former RW Racing GP rider Luis Salom win in the final corner after an intense fight in a group of five. Jakub Kornfeil would have loved to be in that group, but after a good start the Czech lost connection in the early phase of the race. He managed to hold on to the second group for a while but had to let that go as well, finding himself back on his own.
The race of Jasper Iwema came to an end in the gravel bed of the last corner of the first lap already. Iwema seemed to have a good start, passing a lot of riders on the outside of the straight, but losing his position again in the first corner. Iwema was in 32nd position when he was too late on the brakes in the last corner and crashed. Unfortunately he took Alan Techer with him.
Jakub Kornfeil (13): "My start was fine but I couldn’t keep the pace of the group. Together with my team we decided to run the hard front tire and that might have been a mistake. I almost lost the front and I had to ride more careful. Riding on your own in this heat is not really great fun. The good news is that I have 3 more points and have moved up a position in the championship.’’
Jasper Iwema (DNF): "Another DNF is bad news. I tried to move forward by taking the outside of the straight but that meant I was on the outside line in the first corner and I was in the middle of the jostling again. I tried hard to overtake as many riders as possible but in doing so I made a mistake by braking too late. I’m sorry for Alan Techer. We have only a few days to nurse the mental wounds before we have a new chance in Australia. I think it’s good for us that we move on so soon.’’

Sepang, Malaysia - 13 October 2013: Livio Loi missed out on a points scoring finish by less than one second in todays Malaysian Moto3 Grand Prix, which the 16-year-old Belgian finished in 18th position.
Livio got a good start from 15th on the grid and had moved into 13th position by the end of the first lap. The Marc VDS rider then started to struggle with the bike skipping in the turns, especially under braking on corner entry. Despite his best efforts, the problem meant he was unable to hold off the challenge of those riders behind him and he eventually slipped back to 18th at the chequered flag.

Hard Race, rewarded with solid points finish
A hard race rewarded Brad Binder with more points after overcoming a less than ideal Qualifying. Brad’s drag off the line was quite good, gaining several places. Sadly, as is normal with Sepang, the tight turn one caused Brad to get bumped out wide. This saw Brad drop back four places.
This simply fired Brad up more and caused him to push incredibly hard to make up places. The young South African quickly caught up to Fenati and Oettl and spent the majority of the race battling with them. With three laps to go Brad was in the top ten. Pushing so hard early did begin to take its toll as Brad’s Mahindra began to struggle for grip, the tyres destroyed. He just lost out to Oettl, still taking home a very strong 11th.
Brad remains in 13th position in the Moto 3 World Standings, just 5 points off the Top 10 spot of Zulfahmi Khairuddin.
“The race was actually pretty good. I had a good start, a bad first turn. Then we pushed really hard and had a good battle with Fenati. I wouldn’t have run the race any different. It was better to push hard at the start and lose one place at the end instead of try to make up five places at the end. I’m really looking forward to PI now, we’re making a lot of progress with the bike now and I’m feeling good!” Brad Binder
