Next stop Texas for the Marc VDS Racing Team
Gosselies, Belgium - 15 April 2013: The Marc VDS Racing Team head across the Atlantic this week, for the second round of the FIM Moto2 World Championship at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.
It's the first time the Circuit of Americas has featured on the Moto2 calendar, but learning the track is not a concern for Scott Redding, who is keen to continue the run of form that saw him finish on the podium in the opening round of the season in Qatar just over one week ago.
Mika Kallio left Qatar disappointed with fifth place in Qatar, as the 30-year-old Finn was convinced a podium finish was on the cards after qualifying on the front row of the grid. Kallio lost ground in the early stages of the race as a result of some over enthusiastic overtaking moves by others, a situation he is keen to avoid this weekend in Texas
Circuit of the Americas was completed in 2012 and is the first purpose built Grand Prix track in the United States. The track, which features a change in elevation of almost 41 metres and a unique incline at the end of the front straight, was designed by Hermann Tilke with input from the 1993 500GP World Champion, Kevin Schwantz.
At 5.513km in length the circuit comprises 11 left and nine right corners, many of which mirror famous sections of iconic racetracks from around the world.
Scott Redding #45:
"Second in Qatar was a good start to the season, but we need to carry that momentum into the next outing in Texas. It's a new track for everyone, which will be interesting, but I'm sure it won't take any of us long to get up to speed. I've never had a problem learning new tracks and I'm looking forward to seeing what the Circuit of the Americas has to offer. If we approach this race in the same way as we did the last then I think there's every chance we can repeat the success of Qatar in America. That's the goal, anyway."
Mika Kallio #36:
"It was good to get a top five finish in the first race of the season in Qatar, despite some issues with the engine. I didn't seem to have the acceleration or top speed of the people I was racing against. Other than that the bike worked well in Qatar and, although Circuit of the Americas is a brand new track for us, I'm pretty confident we won't have to make any big changes to get the bike working equally well there. New circuits have always been quite good for me in the past, so I hope Circuit of the Americas will be the same. It will still take some learning, but I think we'll be pretty much up to speed on the first day if we can get plenty of laps done in the first two practice sessions."
Michael Bartholemy: Team Principal
"We got the season off to a flying start in Qatar, with Scott on the podium and Mika finishing top five, but now we need to build on that in Texas with two more strong results. Both riders showed last weekend that they are capable of qualifying and racing at the front and, although Circuit of the Americas is a track at which we have no previous experience, I can see no reason why Scott and Mika shouldn't do the same again this weekend. Two more good results in Texas would put us in a strong position when we return to Europe at the end of the month for the Jerez race."
ANTONELLI AND BALDASSARRI LOOKING TO BUILD IN TEXAS
After a disappointing start to their season in Qatar Team GO&FUN GRESINI MOTO3 are looking to turn things around this weekend as the World Championship moves on to Austin, Texas. Niccolò Antonelli is looking to build on a positive weekend in practice at Losail, despite crashing out of the race due to contact with another rider, whilst Lorenzo Baldassarri's target is to gather more experience and adapt to this level of competition in his first season as a Grand Prix rider.
Niccolo’ Antonelli “I can't wait to get out on track at the Circuit of The Americas for two reasons: firstly because I have only ever seen it before on television and it looks like a wonderful track and secondly because I want to put a disappointing start to the 2013 season in Qatar behind me as soon as possible. In Texas we'll all start out on a level footing because nobody has been to this track before so that gives us a good opportunity to do well. The bike is good but we need to work on the set-up to find more confidence. I will be giving everything I have in America this weekend to prove I can run with the guys at the front.”
Lorenzo Baldassarri “I want to put Qatar behind me as soon as possible so I can't wait to get to Austin and get out on a circuit that looks fantastic. I will try to learn the layout as quickly as possible so that we can concentrate on the set-up of the bike and find a setting that allows me to push it to the maximum. I am sure we will achieve it and that from this weekend forward we can start to enjoy some positive results.”
Fausto Gresini “The first round in Qatar could have gone a lot better but this is racing and when you are dealing with such young riders you have to accept that it is part of their learning process. I have a lot of faith in both of them and I am sure that in Texas they will turn last week's results around. They are both determined and hard-working young men and they have their opportunity to bounce back this weekend. Niccolò has already shown his speed and we know that he can run with the very best in this class so with a bit of luck a top result is just around the corner. Lorenzo needs more experience of this category but I am sure he will close the gap to the front very quickly. ”
DONI TATA PRADITA TARGETS PROGRESS IN AMERICA
Doni Tata Pradita heads to Austin, Texas this weekend looking to build on the progress he made in the opening round of the Moto2 World Championship in Qatar. After battling through arm pump to finish the race at Losail the Indonesian rookie is hoping for a smooth transition to the Circuit of the Americas, which is unknown to every rider on the grid. Doni's feeling with the bike is good and the atmosphere amongst the team is excellent so positive results are sure to follow.
Doni Tata Pradita “The next round in Austin is really exciting! It is completely new to everybody so everybody has to start from zero with the set-up of the bike. We will try to find ours as soon as possible so that I can focus on my riding. I will take a walk around the track with my chief mechanic and try to work out the right line. I have been training hard in Italy with my team-mate Feem and I am ready to race again in Austin. I have also been having some physiotherapy to try and strengthen my arm, which gave me problems in Qatar. The objective is to get into the points as soon as possible and hopefully it can be this weekend in America. I am determined to give my Indonesian fans something to cheer about."
Fausto Gresini “The effort that Doni Tata Pradita is putting in to becoming competitive in this class as soon as possible is impressive and important. He is growing every time and adapting well to a new category for him and I think this determination will take him to the points sooner rather than later. He has a good rapport with his team and they are working together in a methodical manner to find a good set-up for his bike.”
WILAIROT HOPEFUL OF AUSTIN IMPROVEMENTS
Ratthapark Wilairot arrives in the USA this week determined to make up for his disappointment in the opening round of the Moto2 World Championship in Qatar. 'Feem' is hoping to stay calm this weekend after a nervous display at Losail, as he and the rest of the riders look to get to grips with a completely new track in Austin, Texas. The Thai rider has demonstrated clear points potential in practice but needs to put together a solid weekend without mistakes and he has the full backing of the team as he looks to achieve this in the USA.
Ratthapark Wilairot “Austin will be a new experience for everybody. From what I have seen it looks like a fast and technical track that won't be easy to learn. As soon as we get there I will go for a walk around the track with my crew chief and try to learn the best way around it. Together with the team we will work hard in practice to improve my confidence on the bike. We learnt some stuff in Qatar that should be useful and I am confident we can do a good job this weekend. My goal is to finish in the points and I will push my hardest to achieve it.”
Fausto Gresini “Despite a disappointing race in Qatar I am no less convinced about Feem's potential and I know he can consistently finish in the top fifteen in this class. He can do it and we will try our best to help him do it. He needs to be determined but also needs to stay calm when the racing starts. I am sure things can be different in Austin than they were in Texas and we will come away with a more positive outcome.”
MAPFRE ASPAR RIDERS PREPARED FOR NEW TRACK AND LONGEST STRAIGHT ON THE CALENDAR

Recent World Championship seasons have started with a race overseas -Qatar- and then returned to Europe. This season features two races outside of Europe to kick off the campaign. The all-new GP of the Americas, to be held in Austin, Texas, is the debuting USA round that replaces the Portuguese GP. It is one of seven tracks on the calendar exceeding five thousand meters in length (5513 metres) and, along with Silverstone and Sepang is one of the three totaling over 5500 metres. The Moto2 riders travel to the United States knowing that everybody will be starting from zero in terms of track knowledge. This may very well see some surprises sprung in the intermediate class.
MAPFRE Aspar riders Jordi Torres and Nico Terol placed eleventh and fourteenth, respectively, in the opening race of the season. It was a positive showing from the duo, considering that it was the first event of the year, although neither are willing to settle for anything less than the best. They now go Stateside with the intention of improving and adapting to the Circuit of the Americas at the Moto2 class' first outing at the track.
Nico Terol: "I love riding in the USA and I have fond memories of my visits there. At the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, for example, I usually take good results. In practice at Qatar we saw that we are quick and we have increasingly got the bike set up better and better, but in the race we didn't get the result we expected. However, we know that we can be at the front and this weekend we will draw on all our inner strength to improve our performance in the race. I've been playing the F1 game on the Playstation to learn the track. Marc Márquez spoke to me too and he said that the Circuit of the Americas is quite demanding, has a section of linked corners similar to Silverstone and a lot of braking. It looks like a very complete circuit, I'm sure that I will like it and that I can have a good race there. With the confidence that we have acquired, we just need to have the calm start to a race that will make everything easier."
Jordi Torres: "I have great enthusiasm and desire to get to the Circuit of the Americas. I am curious to see what it is like for us. It is good for us to be at a new track for everyone, as there will not be a disadvantage in that respect like we had at Losail -a circuit I had never been to before. I have a good feeling about this, I'm very excited and I want to scout the circuit as soon as possible. I have seen several videos and played video games and, based on that, the Circuit of the Americas seems very complicated, but I've seen a couple of segments that I think will suit me very well. Also, it seems to be very nice to ride and has a huge straight. We have to set up the bike as well as possible in order to not lose out to the other riders too much. I think that in Qatar we did a great job, improving every step of the way. I hope to continue this in Austin and get a better result in the race on Sunday."
MOTO3 CLASS STEPS INTO THE UNKNOWN AT CIRCUIT OF THE AMERICAS
Jonas Folger confident of challenging for victory, whilst Eric Granado will work to make quick adaptation to the new circuit
Hermann Tilke has again made his mark on the MotoGP calendar, designing the Circuit of the Americas that will this weekend host its first MotoGP World Championship event. Like all of the German designer's creations, the Austin track features a lavish layout with a long straight. In fact, the straight is now the longest in the series, relegating that at Mugello to second. Only a small number of MotoGP riders have ridden at the track, and for the Moto3 competitors it will be completely new. In Qatar, preseason suspicions were confirmed when four of the riders tipped for success -Folger, Rins, Salom and Viñales- all impressed over the weekend. This time, they will have to adapt quickly to a new challenge.
MAPFRE Aspar rider Jonas Folger finished fifth in Qatar, after spending the entire weekend amongst the top positions. Regardless of the final outcome of the race, the competitive nature of the German rider over the four days is what has inspired the team the most. Folger is rapidly becoming one of the riders to beat in Moto3, right at the start of the campaign. He is known for his chameleonic attitude and his ability to adapt to any circumstances. This virtue could prove to be very useful this weekend, when all riders will be on unfamiliar ground.
Teammate Eric Granado, must also adapt swiftly to the American track. The young MAPFRE Aspar Team rider had a discreet start in Losail but is ready to keep on working and learning in the Moto3 class.
Jonas Folger: "I think this race will be very interesting, at a totally new circuit which looks very good. It's an unknown for everyone, so it will be interesting to see how each rider will adapt. I've seen some pictures and several videos, but I can't say that I have a lot of information about the Circuit of the Americas. It seems very tricky, besides having a very long straight. We will try our best to adapt to it as quickly as possible. In Qatar we did a great job, but during the race the engine did not perform as well as it should have. So this weekend we will continue working to improve this, in order not to suffer on the long straight. I am convinced that I will enjoy the track -I think it will be very fun."
Eric Granado: "The Circuit of the Americas is new to everyone and we have to get used to it as quickly as possible. It is a very long track and, from what I've seen, features fast corners alternating with very tight ones. For some time I have been using the F1 simulator in order to study the layout, but now I can't wait to try it in person. It looks as cool a circuit as it does a demanding one. I am convinced that I will be fine though. With it being new to everyone this time, we will not start at a disadvantage like in Qatar -a circuit with which I was unfamiliar. Since returning from Doha I've been training in the gym and riding supermoto and motocross. I head to Texas eager to continue to work hard."

After victory at the first Grand Prix of the year in Qatar, the Red Bull KTM Ajo team travel to the USA for the first ever Red Bull Grand Prix of The Americas. Located in the Texan city of Austin, a unique track will test Luis Salom, Arthur Sissis and Zulfahmi Khairuddin to the limit on their KTM Moto3 machines.
With the excellent results from the first race of the year, the three Red Bull KTM Ajo riders face this new challenge with enthusiasm and eager to get acquainted with a new track. The 5,513 metre Circuit of The Americas, with its 20 corners, offers a F1-style layout different to the majority of tracks on the MotoGP calendar. A technical circuit with constant changes of direction and hard braking points will require Luis Salom, Arthur Sissis and Zulfahmi Khairuddin to be in top physical condition.
Two of the most striking features of the track, designed by Hermann Tilke, are the longest straight on the calendar —1200 metres— and the 26 metre rise for the first corner under braking. A spectacle is guaranteed in Austin, in the first of two visits to the USA for the Red Bull KTM Ajo team this season.

"We go to Austin with the desire to continue working hard. These last two weeks I have tried to find some onboard videos of Austin and watched the Formula 1 race there, in order to learn a bit about the circuit. The most important part of the work will come when we're there, walking a few laps with my technician and start analysing the track in person. The first free practice will be important —we have to put in many laps and get as prepared as possible for the race. I think it's a very nice circuit and should be fun. If we can make the most of it, then it can be very useful for us."
"After the first race in Qatar I am very excited about this next event in Austin. The circuit looks good and I think we can have a great time riding there. To prepare for this Grand Prix I have watched some videos of when Formula 1 raced there last year, and I've played the videogame in order to start learning the layout. Clearly we will have to perform a lot of laps in the first free practice session, in order to find the fastest lines."
"I have watched many videos of the circuit in recent days, so as not to arrive in Austin cold. I've also intensified my work in the gym to get as fit as possible for the second round of the championship, because I think it will be a very tough weekend. I spent last week getting checkups on my wrist, which has been a little sore in recent weeks. The doctor confirmed that everything was fine. Austin is a very technical track and has some hard braking points. However, I have to wait to get there to really see what it is like."

From Friday through to Sunday, the Circuit of The Americas (Austin, Texas) will host the MotoGP World Championship for the first time ever. Niklas Ajo will be facing the only new track added to the calendar this year. The 5513 metre long circuit, with 11 left-hand corners, 9 right-hand corners and the longest straight in the MotoGP World Championship —1200 metres— will make this one of the events to watch this season.
After a ninth place finish at the opening round in Qatar, the Avant Tecno KTM rider touches down in the Texan city wanting to keep up the good work. Continuous changes of direction, hard braking points and a change in altitude of 40 metres along the home straight will demand the most of all the riders.
This will be the first of two Moto3 races Stateside this year, and the final event before a run of six European races.

Both Binder Brothers in Texas for COTA

Darryn was a National Karting Champion at aged 7 and has won Motorcycle Championships for 5 consecutive years, he has been awarded Junior Motorsport Colours
These uber talented brothers are ready to make their sibling debut this weekend alongside the first ever MotoGP visit to the Circuit of the Americas.
As the second Honda across the finish line at the season opener at Qatar, and with a solid 12th place finish and 4 valuable Championship Points in the bag – Ambrogio Racing’s Brad Binder is determined to improve on his performance and move into the Top 10 at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA).
COTA poses a new challenge for GP riders and teams, the challenge is the same for everyone. The Circuit of the Americas is located less than an hour and a half outside of Austin, Texas and is the fourth American race track to host a MotoGP. The circuit measures just over five and a half kilometers, there are 11 left hand corners, 9 right hand corners, it has a width of 15m and the longest straight measures 1.2 km.
Brad loves the challenge of a new circuit and is particularly adept at learning new circuits, getting to grips with apexes, braking markers and finding the best racing lines. This weekend is going to be stimulating and exciting for Brad as he takes to COTA with a clear goal in mind. With the support of his Team firmly behind him, Brad’s intentions are set and this weekend he plans to give it “full gas”.
“It’s time for Round 2 of the World Championship in Texas. I’m really excited to get out on the new track. No one has been to the track before so it will be new to everyone. I am hoping for a really good result and a top 10 will be great”.

It is the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies that will have the honour of christening the brand new Circuit of the Americas when they take to the Texan Circuit for their Season Opener on Saturday 20th April. Of the 24 fastest teenagers from across the globe will be South African – Darryn Binder, riding alongside fellow South African – Jordan Weaving (in his 2nd year of Rookies).
Darryn only managed one of the Pre Season Tests having fallen and breaking his arm at the first.
Not one to allow injury to hold him back, he attended his first ever South African Supersport National Race on a 600cc bike just 4 days after having had his cast removed in preparation for his first Rookies’ Race. The National was at Aldo Scribante Circuit in Port Elizabeth, it was Darryn’s first National, first time at the Circuit, first race on board a 600cc bike – and he went out and put in a magnificent performance achieving an awesome podium 3rd place finish in the 2nd race!
Darryn cannot wait to get onto his Rookies’ bike, he will be riding with his same race number as in South Africa - # 40, his Arai helmet boasts a very distinctive South African design, he is proudly sponsored by Arai, Pole Position Travel and Oakley. Dunlop Heads West To Texan Track For Moto Races
Dunlop is heading to Texas for the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas following a very successful event at the Qatar track when race times for both Moto2 and Moto3 were faster than in 2012. Free practice sessions for the GP of The Americas will take place on Friday 19th April with qualifying on Saturday 20th and racing on Sunday 21st.
This will be Dunlop’s first visit to the track but the initial assessment is that the circuit will offer low grip initially and be fairly abrasive.
For Moto2 riders, the choice of tyres is between the ‘302’ soft and ‘717’ hard, as for Qatar, for the front while the rear options are ‘3838’ ‘hard and the extra hard ‘ATR15 3001’. Four tyres will be allocated per rider for each of the front tyres while six of the ‘3838’ and three of the harder rear ‘ATR15 3001’ will be made available to each rider. This will be only the second time that the latter tyre has been allocated. Previously it offered very good resistance to the abrasion levels of the Valencia circuit after resurfacing.
At Qatar the consistency of the Dunlop tyres was proven when Pol Espargaro set the fastest Moto2 race lap on the 13th of 20 laps.
Dunlop has taken into account favoured tyres for the Moto3 teams and has allocated five ‘M’ medium and three ‘H’ hard front tyres along with three ‘S’ soft and six ‘M’ medium rears.
Should it rain, both classes have three sets of wet tyres which can be increased to four if all practice sessions are affected.

“Qatar was a good event for us. Both classes were quicker than the previous year, with Moto3 shaving an impressive 14 seconds off the race time. After the races the tyre appearances were as good as we have seen after a decade of visits to the circuit.
“We have every reason to think that the riders will be just as happy in Texas. We have taken their preferences into account and hope we are providing options to give us good racing. There are unknowns going to a new track but we are confident that we have tyres with a wide operating window that will suit the riders and give them what they need to be competitive.”
MotoGP Moto3 - San Carlo Team Italia FMI lands in Texas
After the season opener in Qatar, San Carlo Team Italia FMI headed to Texas looking for redemption.
Romano Fenati (San Carlo Team Italia FMI FTR Honda#5) was the only Italian scoring points in 15th place in Losail, and will try to make the most of his readiness in adapting to new tracks to beat the opponents in Texas.
Francesco Bagnaia (San Carlo Team Italia FMI FTR Honda#4) is ready for his second race on the world stage, and will resume his growth path trying to improve the bike's setup, in a better physical condition than two weeks ago. The goal is to score his first points in the championship.

"We land in Austin as one, ready to do well. The new track can mix things up. With Bagnaia we are looking for continuity and gradual growth after the injury in the pre-sesason tests.
