Tom's Tech Treasures: Carbon Frames And Aero Updates From Jerez

Thomas Morsellino is a French freelance journalist and photographer, with keen eye for the technical details of MotoGP bikes. You may have seen some of his work on Twitter, where he runs the @Off_Bikes account. After every race, MotoMatters.com will be publishing a selection of Tom's photos of MotoGP bikes, together with technical explanations of the details. David Emmett: This was the talk of the Jerez weekend. Stefan Bradl had two bikes at his disposal, this one, featuring a different chassis design (see the scalloped section in the center of the main beam), and the standard aluminum chassis. After Honda spent the winter working on the engine of the RC213V, they are now diverting their attention to the chassis. Riders have complained of a lack of front end feel from the 2019 frame, and this seems to be an experiment to create a bit more feel, especially on corner entry and mid corner. Marc Márquez tested this chassis at Jerez on Monday, and set his fastest time on the bike.

How long before somebody gets an enormous duct running from the ECU to below the radiator, and uses an overpowered fan to suck the bike downwards and counteract wheelies?

No doubt a horrible idea for many reasons, but I'm wondering what other nonsense one could get up to with fans and aero, while ostensibly just cooling the electronics...

The Bradl Honda is beautiful. Bento box and all. Neat that theybare altering chassis flex via carbon fiber overlay, very crafty tuneability.

The Ducati continues to look like cr*p under 50mph or closer than 50 ft. But I love it anyway, and hope it shines in France where we can finally see the 2019 do its thing. Anyone have a picture of the special livery yet? Anyone not tipping Dovi for a podium?

Aprilia makes a very lovely and slow bike. Iannone and it have something unfortunate in common this year.

Loving these Powered By Triumph Moto2 bikes!! Dreams of a low electronics-dependent 1165 Triple Superbike won't leave my mind. Yamaha, Triumph and MV Aug have platforms workable conceptually. Anyhoo, great pictures - thanks!
