This is what Valentino Rossi had to say after Sunday's MotoGP race at Jerez:
Valentino Rossi was resigned after taking 3rd place at Jerez. "The podium for us is a good result today because we know this is not our race. It's good with the shoulder injury, and we took important points for the championship. For sure we were struggling more than normal, and we did not find the perfect setting for the race. I knew I had to use the part of the race when I am OK at the beginning, I got a great start, I did not make any mistakes, but I did not have enough pace to win."
The Fiat Yamaha rider had had problems with grip all weekend. "At the beginning of the race it was not so bad, but after that I was sliding very much, so I tried to stay with Dani but I had two or three parts of the track where I was losing so much. When Jorge arrived he had another pace compared to me. I tried to stay close to watch the battle at the end from the front row and it was fun."
Rossi said his shoulder had not been as much of a problem as he had feared. "The shoulder was a problem at the end of the race. Not pain, but I was losing strength. Now I have two more weeks to get back to the maximum."
The Fiat Yamaha rider had sat behind the Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa, and watched the two Spaniards lock horns. When asked if he thought that they might crash and gift him the victory, Rossi was emphatic. "Yes!" he told reporters, to which Jorge Lorenzo immediate retorted "Clever, isn't he?"
