Since the announcement that the Motorland Aragon circuit was to take the place of Hungary on the 2010 MotoGP calendar, the internet has been abuzz with people trying to find out about the new facility near Alcañiz in northeast Spain. The track's website shows maps of the 5.077 kilometer circuit and even a diagram showing the amount of elevation at the track, giving a more graphic demonstration of the 50 meter elevation difference between the highest and lowest points, as well as the 7.2% drop of the "Sacacorchos" or Corkscrew corner at Turns 8 and 9.
However, nothing demonstrates the real feeling of a circuit like a video lap. Fortunately for MotoGP fans, Cycle World editor Mark Cernicky persuaded Moto2 rider Kenny Noyes to take a lap of the Motorland Aragon track with a helmet cam, and show what a fast lap of the circuit looks like from the seat of the Antonio Banderas Promoharris Moto2 bike, though the fisheye lens disguises the dramatic changes in elevation of the track. Noyes - son of the veteran motorcycle racing journalist Dennis, who kindly arranged for us to run this video - has turned a lot of heads during testing for the Moto2 class this winter, finishing consistently in the top 3 of the official tests, both with and without the official Honda engine in his Harris-framed bike.
