AMA To Race At Laguna With MotoGP?

There was some confusion after the DMG announced the schedule for the 2010 AMA Pro Racing series. For on the calendar for the US national Superbike series, there was a gaping hole where Laguna Seca should have been. In previous years, the AMA had shared the weekend with the MotoGP series, providing a necessary time filler for the missing support classes. Without the AMA, the Laguna Seca MotoGP weekend would be a pretty quiet weekend.

The problem, it seems, was just temporary. The leading US racing magazine Roadracing World is reporting that the DMG has reached a deal with Laguna Seca after all, and that the teams are being told to start booking hotel rooms in anticipation of the AMA series running at the Laguna Seca MotoGP weekend on July 25th, 2010.

With the coming of Moto2 and their 4 stroke engines, will we be seeing them around the corkscrew any time soon?

At the moment, it's unlikely. An extra trip across the Atlantic is too expensive for the 125 and Moto2 teams, so it's out of the question for the foreseeable future.

If this is correct and it also seems to have been confirmed elsewhere, there may be only as many as 10 bikes in the field. The purse of the Pro series is not sufficient to cover enough privateer expenses. With sponsorship being difficult to find in the higher categories of racing (Moto2, MotoGP), what chance do the privateers in the Pro series have?

Unless I'm reading this wrong (and I sure hope so), DMG may well have killed both Pro Superbike and Sportbike series, leaving only club racing in America. Many knew it was coming, but not by one swift blow from the Headman's Axe.

On the other hand, I suppose they could flog 25, 65hp Harleys around Laguna for a laugh.

I'd rather they brought in the zero carbon 'lectric bikes, now that is true prototype racing!

AMA, oh yes, I remember the AMA. They used to race motorcycles or something.
