With this being just the second time that the World Superbike series has visited Portimao, the brand new circuit which nestles in the hills overlooking Portugal's Algarve coast, not very many people have ridden the track yet. That is a shame, as the track is probably the finest motorcycle racing track in Europe, and a case could be made for it being the best in the world.
This lack of experience means that not much is known about what the track is like to actually ride on. Fortunately, freelance journalist John McAvoy was kind enough to offer us the notes he made on the track when he went there earlier this year for a Michelin tire launch. The notes are sometimes hard to read, but worth the effort, and clicking on the picture will open a larger version in a new window. John's report on the tire launch can be found in the May issue of British magazine Performance Bikes, and is well worth picking up a back issue for.
