Poor Toni Elias' injury led to a veritable feeding frenzy of speculation as to his replacement, but now it seems that Gresini has finally and officially put an end to this. MotoGP.com has an announcement that Michel Fabrizio and Miguel Duhamel will be replacing Elias over the next two races.
The 22 year-old Italian, Michel Fabrizio, currently riding for Frankie Chili's DFX Corse team in World Superbike, will ride the Gresini Honda at German MotoGP round at the Sachsenring. Fabrizio replaced Elias at Donington last year. after Elias injured his shoulder at Assen, but Fabrizio's weekend was very short, as he broke his collarbone during FP3. Hopefully, his appearance in MotoGP will last longer than the last time.
At Laguna Seca, American Honda rider Miguel Duhamel will take Elias' place. Duhamel will add another nationality to the grid, becoming the first Canadian in many years to ride in MotoGP. Duhamel competed in the premier class back in 1992 aboard a Yamaha 500. Duhamel is intimately familiar with the track at Laguna Seca, having competed in the AMA series since 1993. Gresini will be gambling on his local knowledge to produce a result for the struggling team. Duhamel was picked ahead of his team mate, Jake Zemke, tipped for the ride in early reports.
