Ant West

Talk about national motorcycle racing series: AMA, BSB, Australian or Japanese Superbikes, IDM, CIV, CEV, Irish Road Racing, TT, whatever takes your fancy.

Ant West to race Brazilian Superbikes despite doping ban. Anyone know about the doping ban?

Basically his sample after Imola tested positive for an adverse finding last year. It took 2 months for the FIM to inform him about it and another 2 months to test his B sample which confirmed the first samples finding.

Under the way things are run now that means suspension pending trial and no racing at any organizations affiliated with FIM and hence WADA antidoping control. So just about all National series are out, I would have said all but if that article refers to Brazil a national series then I suppose can’t..

Unfortunately you can see the frustration in West as this now the second time he’s been through this. But much different now is the penalty is 4 yrs ban rather than 2 yrs as it was when he had his first go around and there is no racing pending that ruling.

The bureaucracy and delays with just getting a trail date are ridiculous. A top level super cross rider, Broc Tickle, had a positive test last April and has been suspended since and still has no info or update on a trial date from the FIM one year later.

So in effect getting a positive adverse finding test is game over and end of a riders career without due process.

Here is the FIM press release for Ant West, this is all I expect you will see about it for a long time..

Yep Westy is racing in Brazil

Seems they don't care about drug test results.

Good luck to him.

So we won't know if he made a mistake like the first time or was having fun at a dance party or whatever unless someone close to him spills the beans.

From an official body viewpoint its not a case of whether the substance was performance enhancing or not its a case that there's a regulation that hasn't been met and the penalty for failure to meet that regulation is X

Exactly, these are all strict liability cases, meaning it matters not how it got there or if you even knew about it.

The rulings all read the same, they are quick open and shut cases. There should be no need for more than month to convene a hearing and dish out the punishment.

Thanks Apical, that was a great duel between Barros and Westie. If you haven't watched it, there's a on grid interview of Ant West at 12.40 and the race gets away at about 18 minutes

Some more info on Ant's plight. It sounds like a very messy situation.

Thanks for the links, I enjoyed watching the race and also an Intresting read. It's too bad how it's all gone away for him. I've got my own views on it all but seems there is more to it as always. Hope he enjoys getting back to a pure racing atmosphere.

Race 2 https://youtu.be/MAztBpFQCS0

37min On the grid
44min Warmup
47min Race. Full course yellows early on but they circulated with a bit of confusion as to the order and resumed racing without stopping
