It's on ! fingers crossed.

Round 1 at Phillip island has been postponed.

Racing this weekend at Winton in northern Victoria. They are calling it round 2, but this is the first round to actually run.
Qualifying results from yesterday. https://www.roadracingworld.com/news/au ... at-winton/

The two-time champions are on the first row. Arthur Sissis & Lachlan Epis closer to the front, they are improving.
Ollie Bayliss making the step up from 600 supersport to Superbike, doing well also.

Troy Herfoss likes the new fireblade. He will be a favorite for the title.

Racing ( and jive ) will be broadcast on SBS today 14th March, from midday on the east coast of Oz. Some coverage will be live.

Other than the P.I. round being postponed, Motorcycling Australia still planning to do seven rounds including the Northern territory and Tasmania.
I had a look at Symmons Plains again while I was in Tassie. It is good in parts. the FAST right hand sweeper after the hairpin, that is a corner!

I'm hoping Mike Jones & Wayne Maxwell will do good on the Ducatis. Herfoss will likely win at least one race today on the new Honda.

It's up on youtube https://youtu.be/G7J5DXjrh3Q

Edit: there's a part 2 to the video. Race 1 of the superbikes is repeated at the beginning and race 2 is somewhere in the middle https://youtu.be/g5qEjLeUuRs

Spoiler alert; Qualifying news from Wakefield park.

Don't look Ethel.

Ducati on pole.

https://www.asbk.com.au/news/maxwell-se ... park-pole/

Pole Wayne Maxwell currently leading the Aussie superbike title chase.
2nd Troy Herfoss the rider to beat at Wakefield.
Mike Jones seems to have qualified 3rd. Mike is second in the championship, has had good results at Wakefield and also had a very bad round here a few years ago.
Lachlan Epis with on a BMW 4th.

Should be entertaining racing.

Not bad at all those races. Championship wise its looking like a 2 rider race but it could become a 3 rider race

Hidden Valley Darwin.

All action. Two different race winners. Red flags. One race cancelled.

Spoiler alert
Even if you go direct to https://www.asbk.com.au/
It's right there who wins, before reading about the race.
Don't read the titles of the articles below either.

Championship points updated.

Yes Wayne Maxwell (38 years old) leading in what may be his last season racing ASBK.
Maxwell has a 26 point lead in the chip.
Five different bikes in the top six after 3 rounds and 8 races.

Troy Herfoss broken right femur & right humerus. Get well soon Troy.

I still don't like Two plus Four race meetings. Car people don't know much about bike racing! I do like Darwin, warm it is.

Watching some of the ASBK races on Eurosport it appears that a few circuits have concrete walls fairly close to the track

Winton has some walls a bit too close. Hidden Valley also, ask Troy Herfoss. The recent round was a 2 plus 4 meeting. Car people don't understand motorcycle safety.

At Wakefield it's possible to go straight on into turn two, skim over the gravel & hit a wall. Unlikely, I'm way too slow to for that.

Morgan Park Queensland, don't know. never been there. looks like it is set in the bush with plenty of land. I've seen some ASBK races on video at Morgan park. Don't remember anything particularly worrying.

The Bend in South Australia I have been to. It is a good new facility. Seemed pretty safe from a spectator's point of view.

Phillip Island good enough for MotoGp. Going straight on at the end of Gardner straight is still a problem. Southern loop loops around and bikes could come back onto the track at the exit of Southern loop for a T-Bone. Now there is a big gravel trap and a wall. Stops that happening.

That is the circuits on this year's schedule. Eastern Creek aka SMSP fairly good. Still a couple of places a rider could hit something solid. Basically still the places where incidents happened when the Oz motorcycle Gp was there 1991 till 1996. Kevin Schwantz went straight on at turn one. Two 250s tangled going around "corporate hill" the left after the bridge & before the hairpin. David Evelyn hit the wall on the outside there. Roughly 30 years ago so my memory is a bit sketchy, He may have made contact with Luca Cadalora. one of the Europeans IIRC. Think it is a little better, but not "safe". (Western) Sydney motorsports park not on the calendar this year. No great loss.

Another round cancelled :-(

The proposed second round at Wakefield park near Goulburn NSW has been cancelled.
There have been several positive Covid 19 cases in and around Goulburn.

The next round may well happen at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, VIC on October 22 – 24

Unfortunately Superbike class Only! It is cars and SBK i.e. 2+4 with Supercars. Less than ideal, but it is racing.

More time for Troy Herfoss to recover from injury.
It would be good to see Troy & Wayne Maxwell racing together again. They are the 2 best riders in ASBK this year and on form over recent years.

The virus is still in control.
