Doctor John Hinds, one of Irish road racing’s famous travelling medics, has lost his life following a crash at practice last night for the Skerries 100 races near Dublin. Originally taken to Dublin’s Beaumont Hospital, he passed away this afternoon.

Held in huge esteem by the entire racing community, John was one of the largely self-funded team of doctors, nurses and paramedics who responded to crashes at the Irish national and international races.

Also acknowledged worldwide as an expert in the field of emergency and motorsport medicine, John was also a friend, mentor and teacher to many in both the biking and medical communities.

His work at the North West 200 had also made him one of the main proponents for a Northern Irish air ambulance, a cause he had fought fiercely for in recent months.

Motorcycle News joins both the racing and medical communities in wishing our deepest sympathies to a truly exceptional and selfless man.

Tragic news.

He saved many lives in road racing with his quick response and medical skills.

He will be sorely missed.

Just watched this video..... Insightful, educational, and at times humerous, it is a talk by Hinds sharing his first hand knowedge and medical expiernce. I highly recommend taking the time to watch it. Truly the man and his talents will be missed. Rest in peace.
