... and there are not that many options left on the table.

Would Honda SBK team benefit from such an experienced champion ?

Are there any Rea-beating bikes left for hire

Other than the other Kawasaki, Ducati are the only genuine ones (and I think they are taken?) Yam are up-and-coming, but are taken. Honda is the best-of-the-rest, hopefully it's been through it's difficult stage, but it's no world-beater. Aprillia? (I think they are also taken)

he's in a bit of a tricky spot isn't he? neither young (and cheap) up-and-comer, nor guaranteed winner. Unless a new manufacturer decides to pile in (and that's pretty much only BMW) I fear BSB beckons.

For his sake, I hope his manager is camped outside Honda's door

If the big H does come back enthusiastically, it is going to be the seat with the biggest potential.

Not concerning his future in 2019.

But the man was recently injured in his training, will miss the upcoming tests in Portugal, and might miss the next race if his ankle does not heal fast enough.

the most recent report I could see on a quick google (I am pretending to work after all...) is Asphalt and Rubber from July.

Most of those options seem to have gone quiet.

I can't say I'm a big Sykes fan, but he doesn't deserve to fall through the net like this

Now that Bautista has signed for Ducati maybe the other seats will fall into place?

From the news report
"With Eugene Laverty and Tom Sykes at the top of their shopping list for next season, Muir has said that the goal is to have the fastest riders possible on his bike next year regardless of the machinery at their disposal. That might be what the team wants, but if they switch to BMW, it looks likely that the Bavarian manufacturer would look to bring Marcus Reiterberger on board. It could be a coin flip between Sykes and Laverty for the ride alongside the STK1000 champion.
Both riders have been in talks with Red Bull Honda for next year but whispers around the paddock pointed to Honda not bringing in Sykes. For the Ten Kate run squad, Xavi Fores, podium finisher in Argentina, is also a possibility. Either way, for both SMR and Red Bull Honda, they will have leading riders on their bikes next year regardless of how the dominoes fall."

Still not exactly certain is it? If it's a straight choice between Sykes and Laverty, I'd guess the decider would go for Laverty, I'm not sure why, but he does seem to be able to stay in WSBK without any stellar results.

Well, the news is... Sykes in at Shaun Muir, now with BMW again but with actual factory support, unlike 2016. He'll be joined by reiterberger. Laverty and savadori are off to find a new job. Eugene is less than pleased with being replaced by Sykes.

interesting.

I can't say I'm a close follower of WSBK, so don't really have any strong views on any of the riders. But will be good to see how Sykes does on the non-Kawasaki bike and out of Rea's shadow. I am surprised that Laverty was let go. Wonder where he'll end up.

very strtange. to me it can only mean 1 thing : Sykes offered himself for a lot less money than Laverty.

Is going to be a painfull year for Sykes. inside top 10 will be good, and he'll have his hands full with his teammate who knows the BMW inside-out.

maybe it was the beard that swung it. Laverty made a tactical error committing to that 'tache… :D

The interesting thing is that Sykes has a World Championship, Laverty doesn't, and yet the expectation was that it was Laverty's seat.

allthough he has a WC, he also has proven he is not the man you need to fight with Rea.

Feel sorry for Eugene losing his seat this far into the year - hopefully he'll be able to line up something else.

I'm not implying anything, I'm stating he's got the best available ride.

We all know he was second-best Kawasaki rider out there since Rea arrived. He also picked up a title before Rea did. He's now got the chance to show whether it was man or machine that caused that. He's made open statements about his dissatisfaction about his position in recent years, and has said he's struggled to set up the bike following the various rule changes.

I had heard there were some personal things going on with Tom as well that interfered.

I still think he's a cracking rider. He's just suffered from the bike development going in a direction that hasn't favoured him, and has been unfortunate to have a team mate that is truly exceptional.

Hopefully the move to the new team and getting his focus back on racing will help him.
