Qualifying would show it to be a close shootout between Nakasuga/Lowes/Van Der Mark on the Yamaha and Rea/Haslam/Razgatlioglu on the Kawasaki, however the Honda's aren't far away and an 8 hour race doesn't put much emphasis on qualifying position except there are 54 bikes qualified so being up the front reduces the risk of being involved in an early pileup. 2 bikes have not qualified

Some sessions cancelled due to weather

Live timing, they have done 91 laps when I posted this. https://www.fimewc.com/live-timing/

Only 6 seconds separating 1st from 3rd. Currently on the bikes are;
1st - Bradl
2nd - Rea +6 seconds
3rd - Nakasuga + 6 seconds
Also Hook and Guintoli on the same Lap but down about 1 1/2 minutes

2 1/2 hours to go and there's 3 seconds between the top 3 teams;
1. Rea
2. Van Der Mark
3. Bradl
Each on 5 pit stops and as Bradl and Rea were on after 3 pit stops, that means only one rider inbetween, ie they aren't circulating the riders on even rotations

I'm trying to figure it out, did Rea crash on the final lap? I guess I'll have to wait till I wake up in the morning to read the story

I think there was about a minute or so remaining until the chequered flag, but as soon as he crashed they put a red flag out, I personally think it should have gone out when the Suzuki blew up, god know what that was putting down on the track and if that contributed to Rea's crash.

Thanks Guys, reading the writeup on MCNews, I'm sure that Sean will put one up too. https://www.mcnews.com.au/2019-suzuka-8 ... ts-report/

If the cause of the crash on the last lap was due to oil or whatever on the track and the red flag was put out, then it seems fair that the results be based on the previous lap

That's an impressive lineup right there. I'm going to predict a Kawasaki win based on their lineup. OK, Yamaha might be the default prediction, but I believe that it's Kawasaki that hs chosen the riding talent.
Well, it happened. In a strange way, but it happened.

I haven't been following the race carefully over the years. Is it common for teams to include a rider who ends up not riding in the race?

Did anyone else fall on the oil?

The article I read said that only Rea did. Hence it was arguable whether or not it was Rea who caused the red flag and therefore whether 'unwritten rules' should exclude him from benefitting.

Yeah... I mean, overall I'm pretty indifferent about who the winner was.

Guess I can appreciate the argument from both sides... tricky.

Feel sorry for Razgatlioglu missing out on victory

Saw a thread on Twitter stating that someone asked other riders... their comments were that they saw flags, slowed down through that section and had no slides/issues whatsoever.

Video containing the Suzuki blowing up and Rea crashing
https://youtu.be/NuMtVo79b04

The protest put up by Kawasaki was that in Endurance racing there's no rule about returning to the pits within 5 minutes of the red flag going out. Just about every other racing code, WSBK etc etc have the 5 minute rule

So there you go, Kawasaki won because the rules are different

I think the 5 minute rule is not a good one
If it’s there to stop someone winning the race because they caused the red flag then just put that in the rules
Kawasaki deserved the win they were clearly the fastest just a shame it took so long to work out who won
