surprise surprise FP1 at Phillip Island has Rea at the top. That's a bit different from the testing earlier in the week. Having said that there's nothing between Bautista and Rea with Haslan 0.15 behind the pair showing that the Kawasaki is strong. Davies way back in 11th almost a second off the pace, that back must be hurting.

Plenty to happen before and during the racing

If combined FP1/2 results are anything to go by, we could be looking at a more interesting season with 4 different manufacturer in the first 4 places;
1. Bautista (Ducati)
2. Lowes (Yamaha)
3. Rea (Kawasaki)
4. Skyes (BMW)

Only 11 of the 19 riders did a faster time in FP2

Bautista is simply killing it, he's 1/2 second up on Haslsam and Rea who have virtually the same time. Honda has a long way to go, Camier in 12th one second behind Rea and the other Honda riders must be thinking OMG.

Super pole on right now

2018: The problem is not that Kawasaki is too fast, its that Rea is too fast and should be in MotoGP

Great to see ducati winning
Bmw looking good
Yamaha looking stronger
Disapointing to see Honda still struggling
Still think rea will be hard to beat once the season gets going
I would like to see the other Ducati’s nearer to the front

The ducati sure does look fast especially in a straight line

PI is an odd circuit, succes here does mean nothinh for the rest of the season.

but being so much faster reminds me of Stoner's first half season on the Duc : it doesn't matter if the rest have the better bike when there is one bike that makes you look silly on the straights.

The way they are recording the results is a little confusing, its showing only the 2 full races but includes the points from the 3rd race called the super pole race, which awards points 12/9/7/6/5/4/3/2/1

There were a lot of fights during the super pole race
also ... great to see Haslam giving Rea such a hard time in Race2

Other than first the other places seemed quite close until near the end
I just hope ducati carry on. If I remember correctly they won both races last year then faded away during the rest of 5he year
I still think over the season rea will win ( he always looks very consistent ) but looking forward to seeing lots more different winners

Having a look at how spread out the bikes are and how they are bunched in race 3
1 Ducati
2/3 Kawasaki +12
4/5/6 Yamaha +16/17
7 Ducati +26 (injured rider)
...
10 Honda +29
...
12/13 BMW +29/31

While we know that Honda is struggling, I wasn't expecting BMW to be so far behind, they were looking a lot better in testing. Is Yamaha there with Kawasaki? Not in this race, they were closer in race 1 being 2 seconds off Rea. I guess future races will tell us

I'm trying not to get too excited about the season, but effin A,,, Bautista is like the perfect savior for WSBK!!!!
Like even a jaded Kwak fan would get bored at another Rea walk away year.

Then again Philip Island rarely decides the year.

On another note, and I'm a huge Chaz fan,, he's fucked,,,, as-in soon to be unemployed. Simply put,, there's no excuse for him being a mid packer.
And "as a Melandri fan" I'm happy that as a satellite Yamaha rider, once again he shows that raw talent can be better than a better bike.

thank fuk they ended that second race grid start shuffle bull shit
BUT, the Tissot duper pole sprint race is bull sh*t IMO,, but hey,, more racing :)
WSBK is hopefully going to be resurrected this year,,

and I bought the subscription at "red lights out"

PS
The R6 cup AKA supersport was a fukin joke! Its supposed to be a feeder class but unfortunately if you're not on a R6 , well then, just go home.. what a fukin failed series
.

2 cents brought to you by the letter "Q"

Lifelong Yamaha Racing fan, but currently riding a Duc,,,, don't tell anyone 8-)

let's talk WSBK

I was surprised by how closely Haslam was to Rea. With Bautista dominating like that, is there a chance that the level of competition in WSBK was not what we thought it to be?

It's too early to tell... it's only one round at a unique track.

It's very early to tell yet.
Apparently the BMW is very early stage development and isn't making much over stock, so there is more to come from them.
Pleasantly surprised to see Haslam isn't just making up the numbers.

But I have to say that Bautista has given us a reason to follow the next 6 or so rounds

how soon do the competition equalisation rules potentially come into play?

I hope that they keep their fingers off the trigger for a bit.

Whilst I don't think anyone is that canny, to keep in second for the first race of the season (which often seems to throw oddball results) might be a cunning plan to avoid the first slice of adjustments.

As far as I understand the rules they can make a change whenever they can. However I understand that they wanted to complete 3 rounds before making a change.

If a change occurs its likely to be a 250rpm reduction

Thailand is on this weekend. It's one of the tracks that Rea has been historically strong at. Difficult to know how Bautista will go, its a new bike. Bautista came 8th in MotoGP last year at Thailand 6.691 behind the winner

Round 2... Bautista continuing to break the Rea myth it seems ;)

Just joking, FP1 and 2 go to the Ducati, but Rea isn't far behind... if it continues I may actually watch a WSBK race

So not by a huge gap Bautista is the fastest in FP1, FP2, FP3, Superpole with Rea firmly in 2nd. Interestingly Bautista and Rea's team mates are not the next fastest. I'm assuming that Davies is still suffering with his back while Haslam is still learning the bike.

Dall’Igna isn't going to preorder the championship victory champaign until 3 or races are done  http://www.worldsbk.com/en/news/2019/DallIgna%20We%20need%20three%20or%20four%20more%20races%20before%20drawing%20any%20conclusions
