Who the hell takes this one? Betting against Stoner is stupid but we are in Spain and Lorenzo must have learned something from getting stuffed by Hayden. Then there's Pedrosa. Pedrosa scares me actually.

I'm going to wait and see how each one finds the right setup in the warm session before making any predictions. I think all three are more than capable of winning this one, I don't see a clear advantage. Forcada said this morning that the Honda has no advantage here, and he usually tells it pretty straight. Stoner has been taking a lot longer to find a setup he's comfortable with, while Dani was already reasonably quick this morning. I've put money down, but I'm less sure about this week's result than I have been for a while.

I'll be keeping an eye on Bautista and Dovi as well.

One other point, to me watching footage of last year's race on a brand-new track shows up just how poor the Indy resurfacing was.

I think Rossi’s first run in FP1 was with the carbon fiber semi-monocoque bike, and his second run was with the aluminum version. Then Joe Caron Dawe stated Rossi was sticking with the alum version and going straight out for his third session. If all that is all true, then I think the alum version has -.635 advantage over his carbon fiber. If so, they may stick with that bike for the duration of the weekend, and possibly the season. I didn’t expect that. I thought the aluminum version would take a few race weekends to smarten up.

However, both Randy and Nicky were ahead of Rossi in the session.

,,IMO, couldn't be emphasized enough and is continuously lost in the soap-opera saga of "which way should Ducati to go". You can safely assume that at the very least, Rossi should be @ 1/2 second faster per lap than Nicky, at most tracks, if they were on the same bike. This has been the lost point several times this year. Which is to say that if VR was on the old bike for the entire year, and had half of a season of data to take to subsequent tracks than he probably would have been faster than both the "tin"' bike and Nicky by said half-second or more, today..

,net gain after 10s of thousand of $ spent on "try this-try that",,, "0" so far ?

power outage ruined all the fun :( any news as to why it happened?

Dani was looking pretty strong in FP1 though, think it could be his weekend... Hayden & DePuniet ahead of Rossi?! They must really be getting stuck into the development aye...

I believe Rossi has a better ideal lap than both Nicky and Randy though.

Nope my mistake.

I would think that if Rossi had had no new parts this season, but really spent the time in understanding how the bike works, it's strengths and weaknesses, etc, and working on the setup, then they would not be any further behind right now. More and more it seems like a 'throw some parts at the bike and see what sticks' situation.

The good news is that some of the footage from (the cancelled) FP2 on Eurosport 2 seemed to be in HD. It was a bit sporadic but the close ups of the track and the slow motion stuff was superb clarity. Distance shots appeared normal. I have read / heard that MotoGP is going to be on British TV in HD all next season 8-)

Cheers,
Matt

I don't remember much footage of the wall in MotoGP but that may be my faulty memory. WSBK had some great shots of it though. Not in HD unfortunately.

Wow, really impressive time from DePuniet, hopefully he can get a good result in qualifying. That lap record is going to come down a long way if Casey and Dani push each other in qualy.

Randy had a very good tow from Dovi for two laps, but he still rode the bike.

Yeah, it was definately a tow so I wouldn't expect too much in the race but he could do the same in qualy. I have missed watching his all out attack laps during qualy - last year he had that LCR doing crazy things, although never the same thing twice.

Here's the pdf of FP2 lap times: http://resources.motogp.com/files/resul ... 1_b31b47cc
Just brutal from Stoner. De Puniet got a good tow after practically stopping around T16 to wait for Dovi (the MotoGP live timing app is great for going back and seeing what the TV didn't show). Dani got two very quick laps in at the end. But Stoner banged out 5 laps faster than Pedrosa's race lap record, 10 laps at 1'50.000 or below, and 12 laps well faster than Dovi's best time. Rossi just 0.04 behind Lorenzo is also interesting.

Is Lorenzo having motor use issues? If there isn't a good reason, that time is going to be fairly discouraging, though I don't doubt his ability to punch through. Or is he conserving potential race tyres?

I heard Lorenzo wants to be next to the new Ducati on the grid so he can take pictures and put them on his Twitter. He's sandbaggin'

Please, somebody take pity on me - if de Puniet just got a tow to get third - who was he following? - there are only two guys fast enough to give him that speed..

rick - thanks for the link, but since the best download speed I can get is 512k, live streaming is useless.. (and I've had a bloody fibre-optic line running through my paddock literally 70 metres from the computer for the last 20 or so years but Telstra wouldn't connect it).

Stoner - sheesh. That's now twice he's gotten 9 poles in a season, next best is Rossi with once in a season. Lorenzo has been a demon starter of late so it could well be thoroughly on for tomorrow..

TSI, Alex and Dennis are on the feed I linked to, and like Oscar I have a fibre optic cable running through my paddock 100m from the house but no dice from Telstra.
Hell, it took me three months of cajoling and back door wrangling to get an ADSL connection as I'm right at the limit of service.
