It's Picture Time! Round 2 - Solo, Soulful

Post by RatsMC »

It has been far longer than I intended since I have done this. I have a bunch of "formation riding" pics from Rusty but a) there are too many for me to upload them all right now and b) I am feeling a bit more melancholy than usual so I thought it time to post up some pics thet might evoke more of an emotional response.

Images of the lone rider out there focused on what they do. You can almost feel the intensity. The pictures seem almost silent even though in reality, the noise and energy are overwhelming.

I'll start with these. Post up your own!

West (corrected, my notes listed it as Hopper). This is the pics that inspired me.

Capirex - Brno (interesting that two of these pics are at Brno)

And of course this one of Stoner:

And then this one of Hayden. Not really MotoGP but still dramatic.

These are rather magnificent. Thanks :) - not solo, but the picture of Rossi and ARGH WHAT IS HIS NAME on the kwak in the rain is amazing.

My first offerings from the corporate site...

Hopper at the inaugural Indy QP, 2008:

Stoner cresting Lukey Heights in 2008:

Spies, Sachsenring 2010:
I think the way the colors on the curbing match his livery make this picture that extra bit of interesting...

In the vein of the Hayden picture, if you don't know what happens next, you notice the similarities:

Judging by the leathers I think you might be right. Hopper had an AStars deal didn't he?

Sepang 2005.

In terms of tyre spinning action, how much better were the 990's than the current 800's??

Oh, being Crosby, then he'd pull a BIG wheelie on the exit, through to the next corner...

As an image, not all that special, and not even a GP - but a GP rider... as a solo moment, possibly the most legendary return to motorcycle racing in its history.

Hailwood returns to international competition riding after 11 years of retirement from riding and three fun races in Australia, at the IOM TT, and wins. Special to me, for I watched him at his first 'return' race, the Castrol 6-hour of 1977, and he was simply pure magic to watch on a bike.

I watched him ride in the historic race at the Bathurst easter meeting, then got to meet him in the pits. I still have his autograph somewhere.

i'm fairly certain that's at dundrod, near belfast where I live. I've seen a few shots from that angle and it looks pretty like it, just about to cross the line. croz raced here in the eighties for heron zooky as team mate to roger marshall, against a rothmans honda trio of wayne gardner, ron haslam and some guy called dunlop.

I'm guessing this shot is essentially the pinnacle of your goal for the thread:

(Melandri picture)
It's close. I was really going for the solo rider out on his own and not the close up, riding hard, smoking wheels sort of stuff. More pasion less fire.

that said, I'm not going to put rules on a damn picture thread because all of these are good to look at. The theme for each is just an structure to force people to look wider than they might otherwise. Similar to how the structure of a Haiku forces the writer to be more creative.

Moderator's admonition: I'm going to step in, here, for a little guidance on etiquette. People who know me, know that I am a picture freak, so the picture threads are my favorites (which is why I don't start many, myself). However, "quoting" a picture is just a massive draw on resources in everyone's local machine, and downloads take just that much longer. I know this is tedious, but I am given to wonder if that's why there's relatively little traffic on these threads...

Could we please gather around some common ground to simply refer to a picture posted by someone, if it's already on the same page? I've taken the liberty to edit some posts as examples.
