Re: Suggestions for a new bike

Thanks a lot for the replies guys, really appreciated. Tumi - thanks for the notes about the F800. I have read about the different models by year and it sounds like 2008 onwards is the best choice? Once they had ironed out the gremlins and piston slap. That sounds like an adventure you had with the ...

Suggestions for a new bike

Hey guys Am thinking of getting a new bike over the next few months. I haven't ridden for some years (8-9 years ago) since I moved to work abroad which necessitated sale of my ZHR400. Now I'm a bit older and fatter and after something as a sports-tourer type bike for rides into the countryside (with...

MotoGP WC prediction 2021

Hey folks This thread was quite good fun last year, with a few very prescient predictions made. What are everyone's for this year? Really I don't know if we need a 'WMM' and 'WOMM' (with or without Marquez!) But my prediction will be: 1 - Mir 2 - Morbidelli 3 - Pol Espargaro 4 - Miller 5 - Oliviera

Re: Barwa Grand Prix of Qatar - Round 1

Cheers for starting this thread Kenup Wow it's a really hard one to pick isn't it even with the test here. Will agree with Mike and say a Ducati probably Miller. They look like they've been doing a lot of work on aero and with the engine freeze that might be even more telling at a high-speed track. ...

Re: Jake Dixon

Jake going very well in Qatar testing although apparently still in a lot of pain with his wrist, having to come in and get an ice pack after every session. You have to say it's probably going to affect his weekend certainly in round 1 and 2, but definitely promising if he is already back at that kin...

Re: Remy Gardner

The wrong passport thing I think can sometimes be a help, although Remy will have it harder as there is already an Aussie in the GP paddock before him. I think it might help the likes of Dixon, Roberts etc. as Dorna will want a rider with those passports in the category. Gardner is certainly in a go...

Re: Sam lowes

Sam looking very strong in testing and fronting the timesheets in the final Qatar test, despite reputedly not going for a time attack lap.

If he can keep the standard going this year I struggle to see who will be able to beat him, other than himself!

Danny got a good chance to reinvigorate his career this year, will be interesting to see how he goes.

Still got my 'Danny for WC' t-shirt from Valencia 2015 where a group of mates and I were lucky enough to see that in person.

Re: Marquez 2021

Breaking news this morning - Marquez to miss both Qatar rounds, he has his next medical check the week of the Portugal round. Can completely understand him being cautious. There was some video of him before really breaking hard into the final bend at Portugal which certainly makes it look like he is...

Re: Marquez 2021

Yes a view from a few journos now seems to be that he will come to R1 and FP just to see if he can do it on the Friday morning. Although beyond this wondering what is the danger of him falling and hitting his arm again if it was not fully healed? That also has to be taken into consideration, beyond ...

Re: Silly Season

David Emmett said on the front page that technically the rider lineup isn't allowed to change as the starter list has already been confirmed. However, he said practicably if Aprilia and Dovi did want to race IRTA would most likely waive that restriction on the grounds on having such a well known rid...

Re: Is Valentino Rossi finished?

I've been reading through the results from last year in the Motocourse book and his year wasn't as bad as I thought. He had that awful spell in the middle of the year with DNFs and then covid, but his first half of the year was pretty good following the podium. I think, simply, if you can podium or ...

Re: Silly Season

Wow yes.. think literally just after writing that last post a load of rumours started appearing (from GPone) of Dovi riding for Aprilia. Apparently he is going to be test rider for the time being. Some of the stuff I read said that he might be just trying the bike, and if he gets on with it then Apr...

Re: Moto GP schedual and the corona virus...

So 2 weeks.. fingers crossed it is almost there! Only thing that could unseat it now is the amount of Italian engineers and riders who have gone back to Italy in the gap between testing and the first race. Mat Oxley was writing about this and really surprised, as Italy is hitting another peak at the...

Re: Marquez 2021

Out on the bike at Qatar! Admittedly a road-going version of the RCV, but he didn't look like he was hanging around.. Apparently a bunch of the riders were in one of the Qatar hotel gyms and Marc just walked in, no-one had realised he was on his way there. I don't know how much of it is genuine fitn...

Re: Silly Season B S

There was a really good article I read about the 2nd Aprilia seat, sadly I can't remember which site it was on. You could not make this stuff up, I often wonder what the hell some of these teams are thinking with their personnel management ability but it was shocking. - Crutchlow was apparently prep...

Been watching this on social media, horrible news but it sounds like he is just moving positively towards recovery. Fingers crossed he will carry on in that fashion and won't have any lasting physical impact.

Re: Silly Season

Apparently Dorna have stated 'No' to prospect of three Repsol Hondas on the grid next year.

That had been mooted as a possibility if Dovi (or someone else) was to ride on the bike prior to Marc returning.

I don't know whether Repsol HRC had made the request or Dorna were just pre-empting it?

Re: Silly Season

Ah that's interesting! I suppose the issue for Aprilia is that everyone else has improved as well; most notably KTM who managed 3 race wins and multiple podiums, which makes the Aprilia effort seem worse by comparison. Maybe that's why they want to go with a full factory effort, after they have seen...

Really interesting article about changes at Aprilia and Gresini https://the-race.com/motogp/what-gresinis-move-means-for-motogps-2022-team-reshuffle/ Postulating that Gresini could become the Suzuki satellite team in 2022 as one possibility, or remain as Aprilia satellite team (with Aprilia themselv...

Re: Marquez 2021

That would line up with what Simon Patterson has said about the recovery time of that operation. He is almost certain to miss pre-season testing, likely to miss the first few races of the year. What we can guarantee is that, given Marc's importance to HRC and money invested, there will be some *very...

Isn't there an entire engine freeze ruling for 2021, for all of the manufacturers?

A concession to costs and other problems caused by Covid I thought (and partly why Yamaha were potentially in such a pickle)

Re: Marquez 2021

Interesting comment from Simon Patterson on the Race podcast. Apparently he showed the x-ray pics of his arm that Marc posted online (and which got taken down shortly afterwards) to an orthopaedic surgeon. There view was way too many pinning points, nothing like enough flexibility as one have been d...

Re: Marquez 2021

Good question! I wonder if Marc isn't ready for the start of the season, they might have two 'standard' riders Pol and Dovi in Repsol and then have to get some kind of dispensation from Dorna for Marc to have a 3rd bike in the team when he returns from injury? I can't remember the last time we had a...
