Grande Prémio 888 de Portugal - Rd 3

Hey guys

3rd race of the year this weekend and they have finally escaped from the desert!

Predictions for the race weekend? Can Oliviera repeat his win from last time?

Will the king return and reclaim his throne? :)

Re: TISSOT Grand Prix of Doha - Rd.2

Crikey Kenup good job finding that in the rulebook and posting it.

Yes I think definitely helped not escalate things by Mir winning the riders championship, probably would have gone on for some time afterwards if it had been Morbidelli.

Re: Marquez 2021

Quite interesting listening to the Paddock Pass podcast about the upcoming race. None of the journos could agree on what to expect from Marc - everything from him doing well to finish in the top 10, to expecting him to challenge for the podium. Think the only thing they could agree on was Marc himse...

Re: Silly Season

From other editorials I've read it looks like very unlikely for a race in 2021, but possible for next year. Really I think Aprilia can thank their lucky stars to get a rider of his calibre, with so much experience (of so many bikes), onto their machine. It could well be what they need to take that n...

Re: Silly Season

Completely unsubstantiated rumour doing the rounds - Salvadori injured this weekend and won't race, Aprilia will be bringing in another rider...

(Note: Most of the well known journos have said "don't trust this" as they haven't heard anything to corroborate it)

Re: Marquez 2021

If it was any other current rider I would be surprised if they could get a top 10 finish, after a gap this long. But for Marc, he has surprised us so many times before, so who knows? Interesting article in Pacino GP saying the team are apparently aiming for top 15 in FP1, top 10 FP2 and then go from...

Re: TISSOT Grand Prix of Doha - Rd.2

I think the scrutineering carry out some really in-depth analysis of the engines. That was how they noticed that Yamaha were using different valves last year and penalised them. Yamaha themselves thought they were getting the same component but they had to change manufacturer, even though it was mea...

Re: TISSOT Grand Prix of Doha - Rd.2

Yes for sure it's really difficult to make any larger statements at the moment when they have only been to the track in the desert. For me in race two it looked like the Yamaha especially was getting amazing drive out of the corners. Quartararo especially was really jumping out of them, for a few of...

Re: TISSOT Grand Prix of Doha - Rd.2

Some quite interesting discussion on this on the Lorenzo Youtube channel (which is pretty entertaining btw if you get the chance to check it out) - he said Martin had a really interesting style on the bike, breaking late and running deep through the corner. Actually compared it to Stoner's way of ri...

Re: Marquez 2021

But how will a month of fatigue compare with almost a year of not riding a MotoGP bike in anger, against a field that has been? A lot of interesting discussion about what level Marquez will be at when he comes back, even the pundits can't agree although I think the vast majority think even if he com...

Re: Marquez 2021

Apparently Marc to have another health check on 12th April at which point a decision will be made on whether he will race in Portugal. Fair amount of talk on the various podcasts and racing media about whether he will be strong enough to race (or even how close he was in Qatar), but ultimately don't...

Ah that's interesting I was wondering what had happened to Folger. I wonder if the more laid back life in WSBK will suit him better.

Such a long wait to the start of the championship this year!

Re: TISSOT Grand Prix of Doha - Rd.2

Zarco is a really interesting character isn't he. I was reading about him apparently playing the piano and guitar and having a sing along with their team in one of the hotels after the first race. I also asked on the Motorsport Magazine website about what has happened to his rising sun helmet motif ...

Re: TISSOT Grand Prix of Doha - Rd.2

That was my thought exactly CLX. That could have been far, far worse. It's really interesting that there doesn't seem to be any common agreement on the incident or what the punishment should be. You can see Miller look over as they are coming onto the straight and a few pundits have speculated that ...

Re: Videopass - "chaseplay"

Yes I was in exactly the same boat. I don't know if it's the same in the States but in the UK you can't split out the sports you want to watch you have to pay for a whole package. So this is BT Sport, which has football (soccer) and as a result its ridiculously expensive - the money for the player s...

Re: TISSOT Grand Prix of Doha - Rd.2

Wow what a race! Outstanding rides by the podium finishers. Feel a bit sorry for Martin as he led for so long, I kept waiting for his tyres to go off and pace drop off but he kept on it. I liked that Zarco said he almost acted like a rear guard for Martin, saying he could only just keep up but Marti...

Re: Videopass - "chaseplay"

Yes you're correct unfortunately, Videopass is good but you don't have the flexibility that a Tivo or HD record device will have. You need to either watch live or wait until the race has been uploaded (I have defaulted my home screen on Videopass to 'no spoilers' which is useful in this regard). Lik...

Re: TISSOT Grand Prix of Doha - Rd.2

Really hot today and apparently very windy, safely say that the FP2 times are probably going to have determined who goes through to Q2? Yes Mike world feed was saying FP2 and then FP4 really the only ones useful for actual race data, far too hot in FP1 and FP3 the track characteristics will have cha...

Re: Racing circuit pantheon

But then the tyres would melt and bikes set on fire :P (unless they raced in the autumn or winter there?) I think it's one of those tracks that definitely looks better on TV than it would be in person. I know in the early days you just had a small number of ex-pats and oil workers at the race and mo...

Re: Suggestions for a new bike

Hey guys - a quick update. I did a refresher course the other day, just because it has been so long since I last rode. Thankfully the adage about riding a bike held true and once I had got over mistaking the kill switch for a start button I was fine :D Realised what I had been missing, great fun and...

Re: TISSOT Grand Prix of Doha - Rd.2

Yes right that is surprising Mike - I thought also it would be like WSBK where it would be normal to have the same winner in both races or even same podium on occasion, the week gap really seems to make a difference. Will be an interesting weekend and to see if Maverick can strike gold two weekends ...

Re: Barwa Grand Prix of Qatar - Round 1

Morbidelli - apparently his ride-height device (that lowers the rear of the bike as a launch control) was stuck on for the whole race, he couldn't turn the bike. Amazed he was only 1 sec down a lap with that problem and surprised he didn't pull in! Rossi - I saw him get punted wide by Binder early o...

Re: What Makes Thomas Run?

Yeah that's an interesting point. I'm not sure what's happened to Luthi but he seems to have lost his mojo (and I guess that was why he lost his ride in the Liqui Moly team). Checking back to last year he got a couple of reasonable results (two 5th places) but this was a big step down on what he got...

Re: Barwa Grand Prix of Qatar - Round 1

Wouldn't surprise me if Rossi has a go at it! They have been talking about very strong winds tomorrow which will play against the Ducatis and might help Yamaha. Vinales saying they have been going well on slippery tracks as well which has always been their bugbear. As for Aprilia, I will believe whe...

Re: Suggestions for a new bike

Thanks Kenup! Just had a look at the SV650 and it looks lovely. I see there is an SV650s option as well with the fairing which looks good too.

Another added to the list for me to test ride! :)
