Re: SHARK Grand Prix de France - rd.5

I've read elsewhere that in FP1 that Miller went out on Slicks in the wet to record the fastest time. Don't know the details, is this correct? Was the track drying? Edit: confirmed he was on slicks https://resources.motogp.com/files/results/2021/FRA/MotoGP/FP1/Analysis.pdf According to Crash.net, o...

Re: Spanish GP - Round 4

I must admit that my expectation (which can easily be confounded) is that Marc will not suddenly bounce back to the front and start dominating.

Re: SHARK Grand Prix de France - rd.5

I think the biggest question will be whether Fabio Quartararo will have overcome his armpump problems. Even if the inline 4s weren't strong last year, I would think a fully fit FQ may have a good crack at it. And in Moto3 will Pedro Acosta make it five wins in a row? EDIT: Four. I saw predictions of...

Spanish GP - Round 4

Thanks @kenup for starting a thread for round 5. I got behind on things. I thought I still had a race to watch somewhere, but found that I'd already seen round 4. I'm watching it again now in order to be able to comment. Moto3 Acosta again! That kid seems to have it all. Maybe excepting qualifying p...

Re: Grande Prémio 888 de Portugal - Rd 3

I have now seen the Moto2 and Moto3 races. Moto2: Sam Lowes should be a favourite for this year. However, he needs to stay on his bike. Moto3: Pedro Acosta - what can we say? He appears to have it all. I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that he will win the Moto3 championship this year withou...

Re: Should Suzuki get Morbidelli and drop Rins?

Just a thought after yet another podium lost for Rins. Assuming no problems with money and contract clauses, what do you guys think about this? Right now, I'd say yes. Right now, I'd say too early. Let's see what happens throughout the year. Both are good riders. I'm not sure which would be better ...

Re: Grande Prémio 888 de Portugal - Rd 3

I've see the race now. Though, I only avoided it being spoiled by not really interpreting what I saw in the youtube video preview correctly. I thought ahead of time it was going to be a MM93 win. When I saw qualifying (late) yesterday, I was surprised to see MM93 in first quali, having only seen his...

Re: Grande Prémio 888 de Portugal - Rd 3

It's going to be an interesting race. In a normal situation 6th would give Marc a crack at the win. However, we'll see whether there are still fitness issues or residual weakness which may tell over a race distance. Or something else entirely. FQ seems well placed for a win here if he can break out ...

Re: Grande Prémio 888 de Portugal - Rd 3

And, sixth in FP2. However, Bagnaia has a 0.34s gap on second place. M.Marquez is only 0.143 behind second place.

I interpret this as Bagnaia going for a fast run that nobody else did, and Marc being there or thereabouts at the front. I would no longer be surprised to see him on pole.

Re: Grande Prémio 888 de Portugal - Rd 3

I'm making no predictions. But, because of a certain MM93, I'm much more interested to see the results of the early practice sessions than I usually am.

Heads off to crash.net ... EDIT: MM93 third fastest in FP1. Already (relatively) quicker than I expected he'd get for the entire weekend.

I agree but will the red mist kick in?
Entirely possible. But, he has been out of action for probably longer than he will have been ever in his career. This may have sunken in.

Re: Marquez 2021

I'm wondering if he will risk falling off in free practice, which has previously been a technique he used to find the limit I predict he will be much more careful about falling off in general, and this will affect his performance going forward. Predictions can easily be wrong. How much of an effect...

Re: Jake Dixon

Was the first one not a decent ride? Struggled last week but let's not forget how serious that wrist injury was last year I thought he got knocked off. Not his fault, but not a good result in the end. I didn't say the results were entirely his fault. EDIT: No, he finished 7th. My memory has failed ...

I'm too late to post pre-season. So, here is my prediction after the first two races.

1. Quartararo
2. Vinales
3. Zarco
4. M Marquez
5. Miller

Unfair to Mir, Morbidelli, Bagnaia, etc. But, I have to pick 5.

Oh, and sadly:

12. Rossi

What a Moto3 race. We may have a new Marquez in the mix. Congratulations Pedro Acosta, one of the best rides I have seen in 45 years of following this sport. Acosta is a revelation. Particularly in this race, after his great performance last week, I was watching him carefully. Not only is he fast -...

Re: Silly Season

Ah that's interesting! I suppose the issue for Aprilia is that everyone else has improved as well; most notably KTM who managed 3 race wins and multiple podiums, which makes the Aprilia effort seem worse by comparison. Maybe that's why they want to go with a full factory effort, after they have see...

Re: KTM in 2021

Isn't there an entire engine freeze ruling for 2021, for all of the manufacturers? A concession to costs and other problems caused by Covid I thought (and partly why Yamaha were potentially in such a pickle) Only for the teams that didn't enter 2020 with concessions, I believe. The articles I found...

I think this might be a case of 'Less haste, more speed'.

As you say, they tried to rush Marc's return to attempt to salvage the 2020 championship.

What the long term costs of that will be ... we will find out.

I believe they have lost their concessions They have lost their concessions in general, but I thought that the ability to bring a new engine next year wasn't affected. E.g. see discussion here: MotoGP teams wary of KTM building “super engine” for 2021 season and here. https://www.crash.net/motogp/f...
