Re: Jorge Lorenzo

you need a team or more importantly, their grid slot. If Marc VDS implode that would give that. There's precedent for a factoryish bike with Cal Re Suzuki and Rins - I'll take the point about Rins not doing much, but then the other limb of Lorenzo's problem bites - he's a top rider if he gets his mo...

Re: Jorge Lorenzo

I don't know if it's just his money - he is a #1 rider in a team It looks like most teams have got their #1 rider sorted out (Honda, KTM, Yamaha). If he went to Aprilia he'd clearly be #1 ahead of Espargaro (IMO). But if Suzuki have decided to go with Rins as their main bet, do they think Lorenzo wo...

Re: Silly Season 2018

IMO, Aprilia's unpublished reason is "Redding is not faster than Pol.". I suspect they've got Iannone for next year. That should prove spectacular. I think it's "not faster and no more use at generating marketing" - I think the only reasons they went for him (and Lowes before) was that an English r...

Re: Yamaha electronics problems?

the interesting point would have been next year when the new bikes come in - if Tech3 were able to get a competitive set-up for that out of the box, we'd know it's something in the team. KTM will simply give it to them together with the bikes. Absolutely - my point was that if they had stayed with ...

Re: Yamaha electronics problems?

Re Yamaha/tech3 this season - presumably tech3 got it about right from day 1 by non-incremental methods (ie got lucky/intuition/had a good setting to work from from Yam when they got the bike etc) but Yamaha are floundering with no good point to work from. I can't imagine the comments as they are re...

Re: Silly Season 2018

So that's the big domino to fall - although once the seats at Honda and Yamaha were sewn up, it was always pretty likely. Be funny if Bradders got the Suzuki seat [1]... I'd still be interested in the terms. I do still stick to my view that he will have held out for an easy get-out clause if Honda o...

Re: Theoretical 300bhp limit to MotoGP engines

fascinating paper - I think I understood about 5% of it... I suppose the point I was making is that the stoichiometric is the theoretical theoretical maximum (as that is the max energy you could possibly extract). That paper shows the huge complexity of the processes involved, and the number of assu...

Re: Theoretical 300bhp limit to MotoGP engines

properly burning the Stoichiometric ratio of fuel:air is the max energy you can get out of a given volume of fuel:air mix The volume of the engine is known, so you know how much energy a given combustion in a cylinder can give. If you know the max revs the technology can stand you can work out how m...

Re: Silly Season 2018

yeah, it doesn't seem a smart move by Zarco unless his hand was forced. I wonder if he's gambling on Yamaha and Rossi/ Honda and Pedrosa changing their plans? If he can get a contract with KTM on favourable terms (ie easy release for him) then he's not left scrabbling for places if the Iannone/Loren...

Vinales on the podium ahead of Rossi.

A flash in the pan, or the start of Vinales fulfilling his promise?

Do you think Iannone has been sent a message by very serious Italian gentlemen that his planned second career is not a good choice, and that they would like to see him start winning?

Re: 2018 Round 2 - Gran Premio Motul De La Republica Argenti

I think the first iffy pass (Aleix) was worse than the Rossi one in terms of speed and aggression. The Rossi one was not clever (to say the least), but there was a bit of a slide and Rossi came off as he hit wet grass. I think race control also will want to be careful they aren't doing one rider's b...

what he said. GWS Bruce almighty

never forget watching him from Kerrowmoar East (aka someone's garden gate), so smooth and just not lifting anywhere. I can't usually see a race-winner from the side of the road, but that was amazing.

Re: Racing circuit pantheon

I always prefer to race uphill (for those that know UK circuits, I love the 2nd half of the back curves of Donington, Park/Charlies/Park "Straight" at Cadwell, and hate the Corkscrew at Angelesy), so that uphill complex at Termas looks rather fun. I'm not too sure about the drying though - damp "pat...

At the risk of Brit-bias, Cal.

Both he and Rins (and Zarco) were ahead of their "proper" place in the pecking order, so Cal shaves it by getting the win.

Of course, if you want real tinfoil-hattery, it's significant that the only people he isn't talking to *openly* are Yamaha... *taps nose* assuming that is going too far down the rabbit-hole, I can see Zarco being a good fit at Honda. To play #2 rider isn't as easy as it looks - Dani makes it look ea...

Re: Silly Season 2018

I can actually see Zarco working at Honda. Yes, he clearly wants the number one seat, and is clearly going to contest, but equally is a bit more level-headed than most of the riders of the gird and could do a #2 job for Marquez/compete without knocking over the applecart. It's funny how Danni has be...

Pads don't have to go from perfect to falling out in an instant - if it was incorrectly installed it could be binding for the previous laps. I don't know how their pads are set up, but there is usually a pin at one end holding them in, if that failed/worked loose/was forgotten about (I can't see how...

yeah, it just seems a bit early, especially in a sport where at any point there could be a career-ending injury, you'd expect some kind of arm-wrestling over terms. And also why now as opposed to a few weeks earlier or later, was it just when he got his Honda shirt back from the laundry for the sign...
