Re: 2015 title battle, 5 GPs in and beyond

While I would very much like to see Rossi win the championship, I get the feeling that over the last few races he has been at 100%. He was winning when other riders when they were less than 100%, and now that Lorenzo is at 100%, he's beating Rossi. Rossi is still in the leading group of aliens, but ...

Lorenzo is looking very strong right now. Definitely in championship winning form. And so is the Yamaha. Both Rossi and Marquez need to start being Lorenzo soon if this is to remain a wide open championship.

Aoyama it is. I don't think there's much point in making predictions about how this will go. We'll see soon enough.

Re: I hope MotoGP never goes down this path

I would be lying if I said that I didn't find the 'grid girls' visually appealing. However, I agree that it's old fashioned, and is something whose time is numbered. I'd still appreciate seeing people holding up the numbers, but wonder if it could be democratised somewhat. I saw someone on a formula...

Re: Qatar GP 2015 *Spoilers*

Does anyone remember a race where MM seemingly couldn't decide which foot he should have down before the start, and he was still swapping them when the race started? It was in his first MotoGP year if I recall correctly.

Re: MotoGP on UK TV

It does take quite some care between the race time and the highlights being transmitted to avoid spoilers. I managed it today, even holding my hand over my eyes as I rewound the coverage to the beginning. BTW: Before the switch to pay-TV, I wouldn't have considered myself a 'casual viewer'. I still ...

Re: Qatar GP 2015 *Spoilers*

As David has mentioned, if Dani is to miss races it is probable that Hiroshi Aoyama will take his place. He's contracted to Honda as a test rider and being a fill in won't mess up his testing duties, rules wise. He has experience with current machinery and tires and with MM there Honda needs someon...

Not having a live feed, I've only just seen the race. Completely gob-smacked about how poorly the Hondas did. It never really looked As everyone has said, the Ducatis have done extremely well, and look to be on equal footing with the other factory teams. I was watching the laps ticking down and wait...

Re: 2015 motogp predictions?

I predict that the most interesting fight will be between Lorenzo and Rossi for second in the championship. Marquez will win, and Pedrosa will be fourth.

Crutchlow will be the best non-factory rider in fifth, beating the factory Ducatis.

Re: Ducati goings on part 4 (GP15 edition)

Can someone summarise the numbers for inertia due to the wheels and the crank? The wheels are bigger than the crank, but the crank will be rotating a lot faster. There must also be a sprung weight vs unsprung weight effect, wouldn't there? I am not a mechanical engineer, as I think everyone will rea...

The context and ambiguity of your replies made it look (to my eyes at least) as if you were claiming that the Ducati tyre advantage was all one way. Your most recent clarification shows that we weren't actually disagreeing.

That doesn't argue against having the choice of using the hard tyre being an advantage.

Re: Is Moto3 currently the REAL premier racing class?

One important statistic which will define what is the premier class is where the riders want to get to. Are there any riders in MotoGP hoping to get a chance to race in Moto2 or Moto3 in the future?

Not that I don't enjoy Moto2 and Moto3. But, it's clear which class is the top of the tree.

I don't think it does. Four race wins implies that the hard tyre is an advantage at some tracks. There will be other tracks, perhaps a majority, where the hard tyre is of limited or no advantage. But, not always.

Over and above how often the tire was used, can anyone name a race where access to the hard tyres was a significant advantage?

Re: Ducati goings on part 4 (GP15 edition)

Would racing engines be designed to reduce inertia? I'm not as knowledgeable about engine design as many on this forum (I wanted to find another MotoGP forum which was more analytical and technical and less prone to pointless arguments than another forum, and this one is definitely it). However, I d...

I never got around to paying for / finding a method of watching MotoGP live so stuck to the highlights. Given what I read here, it seems that even if I had, there would be new problems about now. I miss seeing full moto3 races.

I'm way behind on what's up on MotoGP, while others have been taking close-up photos of 2015 bikes without their fairings! Does anyone have an opinion on Aprilia seemingly forcing Melandri to compete in MotoGP instead of WSB? I did a quick search to see if this had been discussed much already. One t...

Re: Common ECU + Software

That's always been the case though Tourn. But at least this will be one less advantage that the factory teams have and the non-factory teams might be able to get a bit closer to the factory guys. Not sure if it will do enough to give the first non-factory win since 2006 but it's a step towards a mo...
