Re: 2016 Motul TT Assen

Really disappointed that Valentino fell off. I was really looking forward to the championship closing up. In the end, Marc added loads to his lead.

Re: 2017, thoughts on how the moves might pan out.

I think that Lorenzo at Ducati will be interesting. I believe that he will win races with them. A championship? I'm not sure. A lot will become obvious as soon as he's had a few races. Too much speculation before then could be a bit pointless.

Re: KTM

I think that's a good point on being out of step with other manufacturers in a series with a control tyre. Concerning KTM - I read about their production line, and also the article discussing Yamaha's frame design policy as part of background research for this thread already. The Honda NR project sh...

Re: Agostini vs Rossi

I do think we need a few more races to see if Rossi's dominance is a flash in the pan, or the start of a trend. It could easily be either.

Doesn't Rossi have one less championship in the top league than Ago? EDIT: Yes, seven versus eight. That's something that Vale could equal him on.

The NR500 at one point had a carbon fibre frame. http://powersports.honda.com/experience/articles/090111c081219b8f.aspx Which adds more credence to the notion that if it was a better material for the job, they'd be using it in my opinion. It's a bit confusing tracking frame versions for the NR500. ...

Re: KTM

I would expect it too be made of Carbon Steel, specifically 4130 material, but I do not know that from any source it's just the workhorse of tubular steel frames. A quick Google on that Reynolds 953 shows it to be a basic derivative of this same stuff. As for the other SAMxxxx googling it shows it ...

Re: KTM

IIRC CF as a frame material has not been embraced by the manufacturers because of build time and testing schedules. If they decide that a frame is great except for this one particular area which needs a little more/less flex, it takes too long to make the changes and have it ready to test soon enou...

Re: KTM

I find it difficult to believe that carbon fibre couldn't work as a MotoGP frame material. It hasn't yet worked, but that's a different thing. I'd guess that the reason it hasn't been used completely successfully so far is that a body of knowledge has built up concerning how to build alloy and steel...

Re: KTM

Strength isn't necessarily the be all end all for MotoGP frames.... if they wanted strength they could do away with the frame and just mount everything to the engine case. Problem with that is you lose feel, which is what the riders need. So it's a compromise. Frame has to be strong enough to deal ...

Does anyone know the material used for the frame? Over on cycling forums there has been some excitement concerning new steels that are extremely strong, much stronger than previous generations of steel. E.g. SAM2X5-630. And research producing even newer and stronger steels seems to be progressing ve...

Re: 2016 Round 1 - Qatar GP *** SPOILERS

The main disappointment for me was seeing Crazy Joe crash out. I was really expecting him to challenge Lorenzo for the win. It was interesting to see Dovi defending successfully against Marquez, but disappointing to see Rossi only really hanging on, without being able to mount a serious challenge fo...

Re: Laglisse team to go down due to financial problems

I'm also very sorry to hear this. I don't like hearing of any team going down. But, there are so few women riders that I'm even more sorry than I would be normally if Maria Herrera loses her ride. I hope another team picks her up, but it is not long before the start of the season. OT for this thread...

Re: The Ludicrously Early 2016 Predictions Thread

I more or less gave up on last year because: events. In a fit of pessimism: I predict the following. Lorenzo will gain a lead in the championship. One of Marquez or Rossi will be his primary challenger, but will end up stringing out a mathematical chance of the championship over a long time. Whichev...

Re: MotoGP 2015, Sepang

I've been trying to predict races, and am getting nowhere. The Hondas, Yamahas, and Crazy Joe are likely to be in a five way fight. Personally I've come around to hoping that Rossi will win, the (possibly) last hurrah and all that. But, IMHO all bets are off as to whether Lorenzo or Rossi will come ...

Last year Jorge and Valentino were close in points until the last three rounds, whereupon Valentino out-scored Jorge in each of the last three races.

Faster is not equivalent to better. Pretty much everyone agrees that Jorge is faster when top form is compared to top form. But, staying on the bike a bit more and performing consistently can make up some of that and more.

Welcome Back Takaaki

Welcome back to the podium, Takaaki Nakagami. OK, there some riders falling off their bikes ahead of him, but it's still a good result. I would like to see his great swooping lines heading people off into the corners again.

Re: Very strange....

It was only when Jorge was a rookie or relative rookie that Valentino had the upper hand on him. Given Valentino being midfield at Ducati, and a functional No. 2. last year, I think it is probably having quite an impression on Jorge that Valentino is ahead. The 'bad luck' comments may be Jorge tryin...

By "Losing sight of the big picture" I meant simply that they were only concerned with beating each other and weren't worried about MM or anyone else. As a person who programs computers as part off his job, I can quite easily imagine stuck throttles in fly by wire systems.

What do people think would have happened had Stoner not crashed? Would his team have been likely to be able to challenge for the win?

As for seeing the source code, i guess the factories would have to decide whether to keep their secrets and let them become irrelevant, or make it public and keep it relevant and in use. Also I think if someone really wanted the others algorithms they could hire away a software engineer or two from...

Re: 2015 title battle, 5 GPs in and beyond

I don't understand this new culture of one weekend one rider wins, they'll dominate the rest of the season. Next weekend another wins and it's all over for everybody else. Not really intelligent debate. It's interesting to look at differences in qualifying out of curiosity but Rossi has proven this...

A very good interview. Dall'Igna is an interesting man. One thing I'd like to understand is how much of Ducati's form is due to improvements in the bike and the team, and how much is due to rule advantages (e.g. fuel) due to their status. As the bike now seems to handle well, and can preserve its' ...

Marquez has been quite bullish about this race. I'm wondering if he will be in win it or bin it mode if he's at the front. IMHO it's possible that we might see Marquez take out one of the other title contenders Jorge or Valentino, leaving the one who stays vertical to take a very significant points ...
