Re: Round 8 - German GP (Sachsenring)

Wow. I am not ashamed to say this is the 3rd time watching a race that has put a lump into my throat. The first was Sete Gibernau taking the win in South Africa in 2003, riding Daijiro Kato's bike after his death a few weeks before. The second was a bit pathetic - again in South Africa, the opening ...

Re: Silly Season

Apparently Rossi is going to be part of the media interviews coming up in the Netherlands on Thursday, with a few journos expecting it to be an announcement of his new team.

Odds of it being Ducati are at 99%..

Re: Round 8 - German GP (Sachsenring)

Yep definitely - Pol was looking really positive throughout FP in Catalunya, then had a shocker of a race.
So will be interesting to see if they keep the momentum.

Such a tight field time-wise, think Rossi was in 20th and only a second off of Marc's time!

Re: Silly Season

I think (not 100%) that there were a spare two grid spaces for the past few years? I can't think of any other way - like you say if the Avintia bike spaces are going to Rossi's team, Gresini are taking Ducati's, then there has to be two more bikes on the grid for the Aprilias? Yes I would like to se...

Re: Silly Season

From what I have read Aprilia will be running their own factory team. I haven't heard anything about Morbidelli leaving Petronas TBH? I know there is some dissatisfaction with him not having a factory bike but it sounds like it's just a case of Petronas putting forward the money for the bike. Lin Ja...

Re: Round 8 - German GP (Sachsenring)

Yes right - was listening to a podcast about it and David Emmett was saying the circuit layout covers the bikes weakness of drive out of corners onto straights, as the bike is on its side so much. Also in the same way the Ducati can't really use its top end so they haven't got their usual advantage.

Re: Round 8 - German GP (Sachsenring)

Well with 10 mins left in FP1 Marc is fastest and 3 Hondas in the top 4, which I think answers whether the Honda will still go well around this track! I'm almost tempted to look at betting odds on Marc for the race win, but I know that would have the same effect as Fingernails' profile pic and doom ...

Re: So what happens with Honda if Marc never recovers?

I think HRC are suffering right now from having a rider that was so dominant and so skilful that it papered over the cracks in the bike, and meant that it didn't develop at the same pace as some of the others (it didn't need to!) A similar thing happened to them when Doohan was injured in 99 and the...

Re: Round 8 - German GP (Sachsenring)

Haha yes, well to be fair most of the pundits seem to be scratching their heads too so we are in good company. I think David Emmett is one of the few that has come out and said he thinks he will win. I agree though QP is going to play a big part of it. Overtaking isn't easy at the track and especial...

Re: Round 8 - German GP (Sachsenring)

So does anyone think Marc can do it? David Emmett on the front page thinks there is a strong possibility he will win. If this had been any other track I would have said no, as Marc is still recovering and the Honda has been in the doldrums. But, he has been so utterly dominant at the track in the pa...

Re: Round 7 - Barcelona

The frustrating thing with Rins is that you know he is so talented and fast. I think for anyone who followed him through from Moto3 and Moto2 knows that he quite often had the edge on his rivals in a lot of cases, but even back then there was always that problem with consistency. The guy can beat th...

Re: So what happens with Honda if Marc never recovers?

Yes right, even Doohan and his taming of the NSR500 big bang engine power delivery. Remember him lamenting the bike being made easier to ride with the 'screamer' engine and a smoother power delivery as it meant one of his advantages was removed. That 'just' is a big one though! We still don't know h...

Re: Round 7 - Barcelona

Great to see the bikes back on track so soon! Couple of things stood out for me from FP1 and FP2 - KTM have a really good race pace on hard tyres, both Oliviera and Binder towards the top on hard-hard tyres for most of the session. - Ducati's finishing positions flattered to deceive. Think top Ducat...

Re: So what happens with Honda if Marc never recovers?

Reputations can certainly change, but Honda have a pedigree for success (and they throw the most money of any factory which is maybe the most important thing!) Or they'll just pay enough money to get the rules changed to their favour ;)

Re: So what happens with Honda if Marc never recovers?

From what I have read about Pol, he said that part of signing for HRC was the 'legend' factor and that he always wanted to ride for that marque. Growing up he had pictures of Doohan, Criville etc on his bedroom wall and actually riding for the team is the realisation of a childhood dream for him. I ...

Re: Silly Season

I think Acosta is too young to jump straight into MotoGP isn't he?
I thought 18 was the minimum age. As skillful and promising he has been so far, I don't think I would agree with him stepping up into the big class for at least another couple of seasons.

Re: So what happens with Honda if Marc never recovers?

I think it's difficult to read too much into what has happened so far. We know Marc isn't back to full fitness and at Mugello it was even questionable whether he was going to be able to finish the race (although in the end that was a question that didn't need to be answered, unfortunately for him). ...

Re: Silly Season

Haha we will wait and see.. what I would say is that there is so much strong talent coming in from the smaller classes, if he really wants to come back it might pay to break from his usual habit of being very cautious and to get his name down on paper sooner rather than later. Good signing for Gardn...

Re: Round 6 - Gran Premio d'Italia Oakley (Mugello)

Yes know what you mean about all of that Fingernails! With Acosta it looked like he was trying to plan where to be going into the last lap (I'm not sure if he had gone wide deliberately on the penultimate lap) - early in the race it looked like you would need to be 6-7th going into the last lap, whi...

Re: Racing circuit pantheon

Me too, it looks amazing. I went once in 2004 and would definitely say it's at my top 3 race track experiences. Used to be quite difficult to get to, wandered into a cafe in a local village and there was a policeman sat in there reading a paper that gave me a lift (I love how provincial parts of Ita...

Really good opening races! Very eventful, difficult for the riders to make tyre choices. Rea once again looks like he will be the guy to beat. I'm looking forward to Chaz getting some 'revenge' and showing what a good rider he is after being unceremoniously dumped by the Factory Ducati team at the e...

Re: Should Suzuki get Morbidelli and drop Rins?

Yes for sure I think that would help. Think Suzuki have always been limited by the money they put into their race project and also the relationship between Hamamatsu and the race team. Apparently that was where David Brivio was so good, linking the European mechanics and riders in the team with Japa...

Re: Silly Season

Miller has now signed for 2022 with Ducati. Good for him think he deserves it from the last few results, hopefully now a weight off his mind and he can concentrate for the rest of the year.
