Re: Moto GP schedual and the corona virus...

So 2 weeks.. fingers crossed it is almost there! Only thing that could unseat it now is the amount of Italian engineers and riders who have gone back to Italy in the gap between testing and the first race. Mat Oxley was writing about this and really surprised, as Italy is hitting another peak at the...

Re: Marquez 2021

Out on the bike at Qatar! Admittedly a road-going version of the RCV, but he didn't look like he was hanging around.. Apparently a bunch of the riders were in one of the Qatar hotel gyms and Marc just walked in, no-one had realised he was on his way there. I don't know how much of it is genuine fitn...

Re: Silly Season B S

There was a really good article I read about the 2nd Aprilia seat, sadly I can't remember which site it was on. You could not make this stuff up, I often wonder what the hell some of these teams are thinking with their personnel management ability but it was shocking. - Crutchlow was apparently prep...

Re: 2021 Calendar

Definitely share that sentiment Apical and fingers crossed this year is a turning point! We are absolutely at rock bottom here in the UK (and I think most of Europe) at the moment but hopefully things will start to improve with both the coming of the vaccine and once the worst effects of Christmas g...

Re: Fausto Gresini - Get Well Soon

Been watching this on social media, horrible news but it sounds like he is just moving positively towards recovery. Fingers crossed he will carry on in that fashion and won't have any lasting physical impact.

Re: Silly Season

Apparently Dorna have stated 'No' to prospect of three Repsol Hondas on the grid next year.

That had been mooted as a possibility if Dovi (or someone else) was to ride on the bike prior to Marc returning.

I don't know whether Repsol HRC had made the request or Dorna were just pre-empting it?

Re: Silly Season

Ah that's interesting! I suppose the issue for Aprilia is that everyone else has improved as well; most notably KTM who managed 3 race wins and multiple podiums, which makes the Aprilia effort seem worse by comparison. Maybe that's why they want to go with a full factory effort, after they have seen...

Re: Silly Season

Really interesting article about changes at Aprilia and Gresini https://the-race.com/motogp/what-gresinis-move-means-for-motogps-2022-team-reshuffle/ Postulating that Gresini could become the Suzuki satellite team in 2022 as one possibility, or remain as Aprilia satellite team (with Aprilia themselv...

Re: Marquez 2021

That would line up with what Simon Patterson has said about the recovery time of that operation. He is almost certain to miss pre-season testing, likely to miss the first few races of the year. What we can guarantee is that, given Marc's importance to HRC and money invested, there will be some *very...

Re: KTM in 2021

Isn't there an entire engine freeze ruling for 2021, for all of the manufacturers?

A concession to costs and other problems caused by Covid I thought (and partly why Yamaha were potentially in such a pickle)

Re: Marquez 2021

Interesting comment from Simon Patterson on the Race podcast. Apparently he showed the x-ray pics of his arm that Marc posted online (and which got taken down shortly afterwards) to an orthopaedic surgeon. There view was way too many pinning points, nothing like enough flexibility as one have been d...

Re: Marquez 2021

Good question! I wonder if Marc isn't ready for the start of the season, they might have two 'standard' riders Pol and Dovi in Repsol and then have to get some kind of dispensation from Dorna for Marc to have a 3rd bike in the team when he returns from injury? I can't remember the last time we had a...

Re: Marquez 2021

Marc had an 8-hour op yesterday, it sounds like previous rumours of the bone graft procedure were true https://the-race.com/motogp/marquez-third-surgery-broken-arm/ Some other bits I have read about the interwebs (from other journos - Mat Oxley, David Emmett etc.) - the op is not 'high risk' and has...

If Marquez is fully fit in 2021 I would expect him to walk all over the competition
That is a BIG statement Mikesbytes :D

We will have to start a 2021 predictions thread.. maybe give it until after Christmas though :)

2021 Calendar

Some interesting rumours about potential changes the 2021 MotoGP calendar (most of this courtesy of Simon Patterson and Toby Moody on the Race podcast) - No Sepang test - US and Argentina rounds likely to be cancelled - Qatar might be a 'month long' visit. Two tests there and then two race weekends....

Re: Marquez will win every race he finishes in 2020

Bloody hell this was a prescient prediction ! Be interesting to see how (if?) he bounces back in 2021. A few commentators think he might not be as dominant as he once was due to missing almost a year, and some of the other and younger guys increasing in both belief and speed. Will sure be interestin...

Re: Will Marquez become the greatest racer of all Time?

Marquez rides the way he does though simply because he is of this era. You wouldn't be able to ride like that in the 50s (or even the 80s for that matter) and so no-one did, although you could say even the very act of racing in those days was lunacy with that kind of fatality rate. I guess there was...

Re: Will Marquez become the greatest racer of all Time?

I always say this but I f*cking hate this 'greatest of all time stuff' :D As brilliant as Stoner, Rossi, Marquez or whoever are, could you convince that they are emphatically better than Hailwood or Saarinen? Other than the rough baseline of nutters riding a two-wheeled combustion engine around a ma...

I didn't see the session but think it was FP4(?) and just before QP - the session had to be delayed because they were checking/cleaning the track surface Like you say he should have known better, lots of "club racers would know not to do that" type comments, as you can imagine. Re: What is happening Aprilia

I think it says a lot that Brendon Roberts has turned down the Aprilia ride. Really I think Aleix is getting all he can from that bike, riding the wheels off the thing, to barely get in the points. Aleix has always been good at qualifying (remember him gunning for pole on the Forward Racing Yamaha?)...

Re: R15 - Grande Prémio MEO de Portugal Algarve International Circuit PORTUGAL

Wow.. what a ride by Oliveira. Think Herve Poncheral said it best, he was just in the zone and didn't look back. Happy for Miller, has shown he really deserves that factory Ducati ride with the recent run of form. Funny at the end there, I wonder what he was saying to Zarco (maybe "look after my bik...

Really hoping Portimao gets added to the GP calendar regularly!

Knowing how the cameras flatten somewhere like Brno, I bet those up and downhills have really got some gradient, would be great to see in person.

Looks like a lovely part of the world too.

Re: Silly Season

Apparently part of the reason the Sky VR46 Moto3 team has gone was the cost of the MotoGP seat for Marini but also to have to buy Rabat out of his contract (on top of that I believe Rabat was contributing quite heavily to be in the team). I wonder if he will look at the success of Lowes after going ...

Re: Silly Season

Yes for sure I sometimes wonder in GPs the team owners have blinkers on when it comes to riders in WSBK - it's so much harder to travel from that class to GPs, think other than in 2002 (when it made sense to move riders to 4-strokes AND the strength of the field I think was better in WSBK) you can p...

Marquez 2021

Thought this was pretty big 'news' and probably deserving of its own thread. Simon Patterson reporting in The Race (latest podcast) - Apparently initial surgery carried out on Marc after Jerez 1 has left Marc's arm (humerus?) with structural weakness. Effectively, like any load bearing structure, if...
