Re: BSB 2021

I've seen the races now. I'll probably follow my pattern from previous years where I wait for the highlights to appear on TV, studiously avoiding this thread and the news. Jason O'Hallorhan had, as mentioned, the perfect start to the year. But, last year the first race made it look as Honda might be...

Re: Silly Season

I note that of the seven times that Aleix Espargaro has finished this year, four of those times he beat Maverick.

I wonder if this has had some effect on Maverick's decision.

Re: Silly Season

Ah come on man.. that performance yesterday definitely shows he needs to be in MotoGP! :) To have an awful start like that, get pushed back down to 7th (I think) then to cut through the rest of the field and still be pulling away at the end? I can't remember the last time I saw anyone do that in Mo...

Re: Silly Season

Like Zarco going to Ducati, Vinales may be a gamble. But, if that gamble can pay off then the rewards can be substantial. Fernandez to MotoGP might be premature. I still think Gardner will win the Moto2 championship this year, and Fernandez would then have a perfect starting point to win the champio...

Re: Round 9 Dutch TT (Assen)

Could it be, Maverick and Fabio head to head? Would be nice to watch. A pity that it wasn't. Maverick fades at the start, and then recovers. Yet again. Personally I thought that Miguel Olivera would feature more than he did. And, it's a pity that Nakagami faded just when he looked like he was on fo...

Re: Round 9 Dutch TT (Assen)

after a best position of 10th for a Ducati rider (Miller) in Free Practice both Bagnaia and Zarco after taking out Q1 have done well in Q2. While the winner is likely to be Vinales or Quartararo, its not clear who else will be on the podium. I predict Olivera for the podium. And, not necessarily on...

Re: Round 9 Dutch TT (Assen)

And, FP3 has spoken. Vinales still on top. Two Hondas straight through to Q2, and neither Marquez is among them.

I'll be picking up the quali later in the day - not watching live. Speak to everyone after that.

This has to be genuine pace by Vinales now. Surely he's favourite for the race.

Re: Round 9 Dutch TT (Assen)

And, after our comments yesterday, Vinales is at the top of both sessions today. :D :D :D Interesting to see Garett Gerloff replacing Morbidelli. Gerloff has shown quite some promise in WSBK. I guess they didn't choose Razgatlioglu for the seat as he's a championship contender and the risk of injury...

Re: Silly Season

I see that the VR46 team will have Duc's for 3 years. Speculation is that the riders will be Luca Marini and either Marco Bezzecci or Rossi himself Full factory, and/or older machines? EDIT: This article doesn't say for sure: https://www.crash.net/motogp/news/981441/1/official-vr46-signs-ducati-202...

Round 9 Dutch TT (Assen)

In 2019, there was a rare win for Vinales. Doesn't seem too likely this year, but stranger things have happened.

For me the biggest question will be whether MM93 has made a major step forward last race, or whether he'll drop back into the field.

Re: Round 8 - German GP (Sachsenring)

I feel like he is too much of a Saturday racer and lacks a small measure of opportunism to get better results in the races. The bike shouldn't be on the podium a lot, but at least once it should have been there. 3 of the Yamahas can't make it close, Suzuki has gone backwards, HRC is a non factor ex...

Re: Round 8 - German GP (Sachsenring)

Random drop: Aprilia should be shopping for 2 riders. I don’t think Aleix had the ‘zen’ in him help them take the next step. Wow. I would have thought Aleix and the Aprilia were looking like a good team. And that Aleix would be a good candidate to take the bike forward to podiums and possible wins....

Re: Round 8 - German GP (Sachsenring)

Looking at each of the races in more detail. Moto3 - The return of Acosta. It was looking a bit shaky for a while, but straight back to the top step. A very hard fought race - when was the last time a Moto3 victory wasn't a hard fought race? But Acosta showed that he can still fight all race long an...

Re: Round 8 - German GP (Sachsenring)

Combined times - Hondas in 7, 9, 10. Straight through to Q1, but not looking promising for a Honda pole. We'll see. BTW: Is anyone else disengaging from Moto3 qualifying? As it seems utterly inconsequential as pretty much the entire field is all mixed up from the qualifying order after the first lon...

Re: Silly Season

I think for VR46 - I have read Bezecchi is coming up from Moto2, and of course Marini. Interesting. With Gardner going up to KTM (Tech3 I believe) and Gresini taking two Moto2 frontrunners, that would be a LOT of new graduands into the MotoGP class. EDIT: Marini is already in MotoGP. D'oh! (The res...

Re: Round 8 - German GP (Sachsenring)

Pedro Acosta is fastest in Moto3 FP2. Perhaps the curse of my avatar is wearing off. (I'm guessing this is a track he's been to before as the real reason.) EDIT: I'm too lazy to look it up myself, but has there been a weekend where a KTM won in Moto3, a bike from the KTM team won in Moto2, and then ...

Re: Silly Season

From what I have read Aprilia will be running their own factory team. I haven't heard anything about Morbidelli leaving Petronas TBH? I know there is some dissatisfaction with him not having a factory bike but it sounds like it's just a case of Petronas putting forward the money for the bike. Lin J...

Re: Round 8 - German GP (Sachsenring)

It's looking very positive for Honda now. But, there have been FP1 sessions before this year where Marquez has shone or at least done well, and then he's faded throughout the weekend and into qualifying. FP2 often turns things on their heads. We shall see. I'm not saying it's likely that Honda will ...

Re: Silly Season

This post is really following up @Mikesbytes post in the round 8 thread where Mikesbytes predicts a Quartararo win, with Vinales off the podium. We've had discussion of whether Rins is doing his career good by falling off all the time. If Vinales continues to (on average) underperform compared to Qu...

Re: So what happens with Honda if Marc never recovers?

Now Marc no longer has that gap to the others - mostly because of his physical condition, perhaps also because he is not match fit. It's going to be interesting to see if Marc returns to not only full match fitness but also to reclaim his gap to the others. The latter might not happen not only beca...

Re: Round 8 - German GP (Sachsenring)

So does anyone think Marc can do it? David Emmett on the front page thinks there is a strong possibility he will win. If this had been any other track I would have said no, as Marc is still recovering and the Honda has been in the doldrums. But, he has been so utterly dominant at the track in the p...

Re: Round 8 - German GP (Sachsenring)

When I look back in the past to work out which tracks might be Honda tracks, I tend to discount Marquez.

Cal's podium in 2019 might indicate Honda, but Rossi's podium in 2018 must be one of his last ever podiums.

I'm really not sure what's going to happen.
