Re: Will BMW deliver with Van Der Mark?

I'm not sure the article in Crash.net found anyone to be up there. The heading was "can anybody beat Rea?" and as one of the comments said "that's a very long way of saying "no"" I think WSBK has gone through a lot of flux. I'm don't agree that it's all a bad idea - BSB seems to deliver good racing ...

Re: Will BMW deliver with Van Der Mark?

I think BMW are caught in a bit of a dilemma They introduced the sports bike to well and truly blow away the "pipe-and-slippers" rep of the (bike) brand. And they went racing to show what the bike could do. But the bike market has shifted (less sportsbikes being sold, insurance, price point, usabili...

Honda repeating the same mistakes?

Saw this in the Takagami article on Crash "Most of the time it's really difficult to show our real potential, because the main thing is that the engine performance is completely different, and always the latest engine spec has more power and speed. "In MotoGP if you lose one tenth in the back straig...

Re: Road racing 2021 - any good news anywhere?

I reckon the manx will be called off too - the problem is the Mountain Course extension to the licence and the need for signatures this year. If there isn't enough of the season beforehand, no-one can qualify.

Fingers crossed the shorter races will be able to go ahead.

Anyone have anything to the contrary?

Re: Danny Kent

Any chance of a link? I really like Hicky. I saw his first BSB win at Cadders in the rain from the comfort of the beertent at the manx (in the rain). I do think he is a proper road-racer who just didn't know it, but yes, I take your point there have been good crossovers, but rarely from the very poi...

Re: Danny Kent

Hmmmm, I hope not. Karl Harris rings through the mind Anyone doing the TT with something to prove is a risk. Re: Silly Season

It's a ballsy move by Bradley if he has refused a contract. He's certainly not at the front of the MotoGP talent list, and if he doesn't take the testing role he's got be looking at retirement (unless he's got something lined up). I can imagine Aprillia deciding two riders is enough in covid times, ...

Re: 2020 world championship prediction

Sounds like the shipping forecast - I reckon Marquez to win, two or three yamahas behind him, then the Ducatis (best bikes but, I can't see anyone at Ducati thinking about this year - Dovi will be unsettled whatever the result of the negotiations, Petrucci will be trying to get his head around Germ...

Re: Will Marquez become the greatest racer of all Time?

noting that Morbidelli is having a crack at 4-wheels, I wonder how that fits with my argument about greater variety of titles = better Would a WSBK champ with a WRC title under his belt be more GOAT than a multiple MotoGP rider, or an F1 champ with a World speedway crown etc (or for that matter some...

- HRC may be lining up Dovi to ride until Marc is in a position to return. If Dovi is leading the championship in May/June, what do they do then? jam the glass doors a bit... ;)(joke) I'm glad something is happening - I'd hate him to be stuck with an injury that just doesn't heal lots of tinfoil ha...

Re: Will Marquez become the greatest racer of all Time?

I think his riding style is *amazing*, and the controlled crashing is something else, but put it in a different set of circumstances and it wouldn't work. Hopefully in less fatal ways than I mooted, but can you imagine pushing a bike beyond it's limits anywhere on the Mountain course? To me Agostini...

Re: Will Marquez become the greatest racer of all Time?

With his style he'd have been dead in less than a season in the 50s. Maybe he can ride another way, but we haven't seen him do it at top level. Stoner won championships on two different machines (at least one of which was unrideable by others). Rossi jumped from 2-stroke to 4-stroke and then on to Y...

Re: Will Marquez become the greatest racer of all Time?

I think GOAT is a silly idea, but if there is one, it's Surtees. Everyone else has won varying numbers of championships on 2 wheels. Over the fence they are arguing about who has won the most championships on 4 wheels. Nobody else (AFAIK) has won the top class in both. It's why I'm a bit dissapointe...

Re: The Zarco pic on the main page

Speaking as an ex-club racer, I'd say, I've seen better and worse behaviour. And his bike probably doesn't have any plastic metal forming any part of the cases... Also, short of an actual oil slick a club race would just sling some cement dust down and carry on... it can be quite unnerving the day a...

The Zarco pic on the main page

of him taking a smoking bike across the track. What is the story behind that? presumably it was in practice as he finished the race? It doesn't look terribly clever, but I can see that if it was say a popped breather hose misting oil onto a hot exhaust why it is not a problem, but he's not doing muc...

Re: What is happening Aprilia

I'd be curious to know what happened with Chaz (maybe Chaz and Brad sound similar in Italian...) But TBH, 1) they are back of the Grid. Someone has to be, and it's them 2) they have limited funds and have to cut their cloth accordingly 3) they have just developed a completely new bike I think that i...

Re: Marquez 2021

it's not looking clever is it? I wonder if he's over-trained over the time and not given himself recovery time. He's always looked pretty low on body fat. I would have expected him to put a bit on when trying to recover. Has he had that area plated before that hasn't properly healed? Bone infection?...

Re: R14 Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana 15 Nov

I think the summer-in-southern-Europe bias to MotoGP is going to show - there's very little experience of cold tracks. There could be a lot of crashers over these two rounds, both because of no settings and because the riders and teams aren't used to operating in these conditions. I'm betting a lot ...
