Re: 2018 Round 2 - Gran Premio Motul De La Republica Argenti

Sadly I think they've missed their chance now. Imposing a ban - which I think is merited - would just look like yielding to pressure from the VR46 camp, which impression they'll be anxious to resist.

Re: 2018 Round 2 - Gran Premio Motul De La Republica Argenti

What's scary about Marquez (to me) is not that it's calculated; rather, the very reverse, that he doesn't seem to get the possible consequences of his riding. His response to this weekend's storm has simply been to say: "In my career I never, never, never go straight to one rider thinking that he wi...

Re: 2018 Round 2 - Gran Premio Motul De La Republica Argenti

I'm personally a bit surprised that Zarco's move on Pedrosa is (largely) getting a free pass here; I didn't think there was anywhere near enough room on the inside there and was baffled that it wasn't at least investigated. As for Marquez, what can one say. Ever since the grievous under-sanctioning ...

Re: What's going on with Bradley Smith?

Just for fun... Bradley Smith on the Tech 3 in 2015 finished the season on 181 points. Johan Zarco, if he should win in Valencia would finish on 179 points. That is indeed a salutary stat. I'm not sure many of us would have got a 'True or False' right on 'Bradley Smith scored more points in 2015 th...

Re: 2017 Round 18: Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenci

I have a slightly apprehensive feeling about this round, given circumstances two years ago. VR will never forgive MM's antics then (which we don't need to reopen) and you can't help thinking that there might be some extra vigour in a VR pass should they be adjacent.

I agree, Byrne's very likeable but I was really disappointed for Haslam. Haslam's (and his team's) gesture in deferring the medical treatment and being carted over to congratulate Byrne, esp given the seriousness of his injuries, was remarkable and deeply impressive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

Re: British Superbikes 2017 Thread

So what happens when the UK leaves the EEC  Well of course the EEC itself ended in 1993 ... but if it's a serious question, lord knows, though I guess that since it's an arrangement that the series and the circuit likes, they should be able to carry on. Just one of several billion unknowns rig...

Re: British Superbikes 2017 Thread

The Showdown isn't resolved yet: there are 3 final races at Silverstone this weekend, which resolves the top six. The 3-round / 7-race Showdown is then at Oulton [2], Assen [2], and Brands [3]. So Dixon can still make it and is making bullish noises: http://www.bikesportnews.com/news/news-detail/yo...

Moaning about WSBK in the other thread has made me think about how good the BSB has been this year! :D I agree - far more entertaining than the exotica-with-headlight-stickers burlesque of WSB ... Prediction for this year going into the showdown? ... A shame that Dixon didn't get into the top 6 as ...

The question lies what training is the safest that improves skills? I certainly don't know the answer but I'll take the guess at flat tracking using Ivan Mauger as the example, he raced internationally right up to the ripe old age of 45. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivan_Mauger - while of course i...

You can hear Jules almost tripping over himself in an effort to be as conciliatory as possible, but I don't think Huewen can help himself (and I guess doesn't realise what he sounds like). Spot on. It's pathological. And what makes it so annoying is that Ryder is much the more accurate (Ryder: "Mea...

I've thought for years that he had more than one eye on it. It would be a consolation for not making no. 10 if he achieved the GP win record. And of course it must hurt that had he not spent two years at Ducati he would, surely, already have surpassed it.

Not disputing your point, I think it would be more accurate that he's generally able to cope very with all conditions, not necessarily a specialist in the wet.

It is supposed to rain all week-end... then Rossi will crawl one closer to Ago Would love that personally, but, as an aside, I don't quite get where VR's wet-reputation comes from; I mean, I think he's supernaturally good at intuiting changing conditions (as last week at Assen) rather than that he'...

Rossi motocross accident

https://motomatters.com/news/2017/05/25/valentino_rossi_suffers_chest_and.html As David says in the piece, strange to learn that he was back on a moto-x bike after the bad experience of the shoulder injury and the switch to flat-track. I do hope that he hasn't aggravated that shoulder. It would real...

I like Crutchlow... but the comment "the Yamaha was much better than the Honda, just the Honda riders rode better" is laughable. The Honda works at COTA! Proven over the last 5 years, it works with the track! He is too often, now, crossing that fine line between court-jester-speaking-truth-to-power...

all that matters is the race ... Rossi ... knows all that matters is the race and has the experience/racecraft to be fast when needed, even if the bike isn't as it should be. No point in risking bones during testing/practice. All true. Though of course the problem he's had these last few years - de...

The trick is to put yourself somewhere where there is a big screen in front of you. Makes it much easier to follow the entire race. So true. I've settled on Woodcote in recent years at Silverstone - a notoriously poor viewing circuit - not just because you see a decent span of the track there, but ...
