Re: Silly Season

From what I have read it's more to do with the size of the racing department and the budget/personnel available to them rather than the actual size of the company, which as you say shouldn't be short of money. I believe Aprilia Racing is the smallest in this regard within the MotoGP paddock, even be...

Re: Silly Season

Salvadori? He is going to ride for the rest of the year apparently. If MV races it will be as a wildcard (the factory is allowed 6 per year) Although there have been some comments that the team haven't got enough personnel to be able to field 3 bikes, so who knows? And it's not like Aprilia have a f...

Re: Silly Season

Vinales and Yamaha have terminated their contract with immediate effect. A lot of supposition online that he may step in as early as Silverstone on the Aprilia.. ! Apparently Crutchlow will team-mate Fabio on the factory bike. Other rumours that Jake Dixon will race on the Petronas Yamaha as a one-o...

Re: Round 11 - Austrian GP

Yeah it's incredible what a difference it has made. Although apparently Michelin reintroduced the harder tyre after Oliviera's chunked at the previous round. Binder was at least with the lead group (Oliviera injured so can't really draw too much from his position), hopefully will help them go a bit ...

Re: Silly Season

I agree with you Fingernails but is Toprak likely to get a better opportunity or offer than he has now? The MV fallout, Rossi retiring, plus the top Moto2 guys already snapped up by other teams, I think if had wanted to go now would certainly be the time. A few journos (David Emmett amongst them) th...

Re: The Strange Case Of Maverick Vinales

https://www.crash.net/motogp/news/985343/1/official-maverick-vinales-join-aprilia-motogp-2022 Well, he's joined Aprillia. On the plus side, he's going to have to act quickly if he wants to take his frustration out on the machinery before if grenades of it's own accord... Lol indeed.. hopefully the ...

Re: Round 11 - Austrian GP

My God what a race! There are times when you realise the skill level of these guys, absolutely immense. Brad was always going to end up either looking like a genius or an idiot with that one and fortunately it paid off! I loved Simon Crafar's question to him at the end "I don't think I have ever bee...

Re: The Strange Case Of Maverick Vinales

How to apologise without really apologising? Peter Bom made an interesting observation that it sounded like a legally directed statement rather than a genuine apology. I think any time you apologise and say "but" it's not really a meaningful apology. From Yamaha's perspective, beyond the reported 'i...

Re: The Strange Case Of Maverick Vinales

Vmax I think there were other occasions where he was going flat out on the straight in 5th, there are reports from journos and cameramen on the straight and also the data if you look at his data from the final laps (top speed is about 30kph down) So a lot worse than the video shows (which I agree di...

Re: Silly Season

I honestly think it's easier to list the riders not in contention for the Petronas ride than to list them all! Scatch what I said about Bezecchi - apparently interview in Speedweek where 'strong links to VR46' were mentioned. Apparently Cameron Beaubier's manager was seen sniffing around the paddock...

Re: The Strange Case Of Maverick Vinales

I think you can judge a lot by how the Japanese teams run things and their behaviour with similar riders in the past. An interesting point made by Jules Ryder just, Vinales has already been removed from all of the Yamaha promotional material coming up for the weekend. As far as Hamamatsu are concern...

Re: The Strange Case Of Maverick Vinales

Yup.. mad news, just reading this a bunch of reporters/cameramen reported it too (and I guess Yamaha must have had the data). Maverick withdrawn from this weekend's race with immediate effect, you have to think that is the end of his career with that team. And wonder if this will affect his signing ...

Re: Round 10 STYRIA Red Bull Ring Spielburg

Man.. don't get me started on Ogura and the Moto2 race. I'm gradually being turned against the green run-off penalisation rules as it now impacting the racing, it actually ruined the end of that race as that was lining up for a race for the win. Don't know what the alternative is (and I sure as hell...

Yes those would probably be my top pics too. I see Mat Oxley has got a book coming out (Valentino Rossi: All his Races) which looks lovely and is already on the Christmas pressie list :D 2006 estoril..bunch of us glued to the TV, and every one of us totally pissed with whiskey rum vodka what not. Re: Silly Season

Yeah Toprak for me was the biggest dropped ball there. I have read about some strong advice from Sofalogu about him staying in the series, and numerous bits about financial incentives for him continuing to win in WSBK. He certainly won't be the first rider to have their career derailed by dodgy mana...

Valentino Rossi announces retirement

The news today that I'm sure a lot of us guessed was coming! Undoubtedly one of the biggest ever names in the history of the sport and although the podiums have been sparse over the past few seasons I don't think anyone can deny the impact he has had on the sport and really helping to make modern GP...

Re: Silly Season

Yeah it's a real shame I think. I like the moniker that has been added to the team of 'team Bone Saw' for next year. Does he really need to go scraping around there for the money, you would think he could get it from a less shitty source. Had very limited work dealings with the Saudis in the past. W...

Re: Racing circuit pantheon

I had to get to the 5th line there till I realised which circuit you were talking about :D My memories of the track is that got some of the worst viewing I have ever known at a track (think I missed out on just getting one of the grandstand seats). Ended up moving a security fence and sitting under ...

Re: Silly Season

Yes I completely agree. I think everyone would forgive this season even if he barely gets 1pt for the rest of the year. He has been a Great, and you don't know you have dropped until suddenly it isn't there any more (we see this happen to lots of sportsmen all the time). But, I think a 2nd season ju...

Re: Silly Season

Yes he did until this year, although a couple of quotes this year seem to contradict that. At Assen he said "never say never" when asked about the prospect of going to GPs (this despite signing another contract with Kawasaki), following this up by saying he feels like he has never been riding better...

Re: Silly Season

That's interesting, I'll have to have a listen to the Podcast to find out the detail. Just a complete speculation on my part, but one of the Saudis did want Rossi riding (he hadn't sounded keen). I wonder if that's their condition for the sponsorship? In any case I can't imagine Rossi struggling to ...

Re: World SBK in 2021

The Yamaha is definitely getting better isn't it, Toprak riding really well and an uncharacteristic mistake by Rea at Donington Race 3 (although the commentator pointed out he has 1 per year!)

Ducati looked like they dipped in the last race, that was probably their worst race for a while.

Re: Silly Season

Yes I think that was an arrangement with Avintia for this year. From next year the Avintia team organisation is losing its grid slots, those will be bought by the new VR46 team (I assume this will be a new team built around the Moto2 team and getting some new people in?) I know what you mean with Ap...
