Re: DON'T TOUCH MUGELLO !

it's been a month, and decided to have a check on what has become of it all. it s UN-F*ING-BELIEVABLE ! You seem do deem your need for entertainment to be more important than the rider's safety, which is crazy. And JanBros has made it pretty clear that track beauty is much more important to him than...

Re: DON'T TOUCH MUGELLO !

I did try and point out why your monotonic view of bike power and need for electronics relationship is not just obviously true, with examples. E.g. that power delivery characteristics may be an important factor contributing to the relationship which could break a monotonic relationship between powe...

Re: DON'T TOUCH MUGELLO !

IOM was removed from the 500/350/250/125/80 calendar due to safety concerns as there was no realistic way to get safety where it needed to be. In this case the most cost effective solution would be to modify the circuit; 1. dig down the hump 2. on the corners with insufficient runoff, finish the st...

Re: DON'T TOUCH MUGELLO !

I can say the same about you : nothing you've said makes sence to me as to why I should be wrong in my saying "less power makes electronics less important"

feel free to open another topic and we'll continue there ;)

Re: KTM better or worse

I think it would much more difficult and time consuming unless you are very lucky and stumble on a good starting point almost by chance. Depending on being lucky is the lowest form of engineering. (One of our insults at my company) it is your right to think that. I'm pretty sure at KTM, they are no...

Re: DON'T TOUCH MUGELLO !

I would say that making small changes to tracks such as removing a hump or moving a corner to create better run-off is a simpler method of keeping the track on the calendar than changing the bikes. firstly : that hump is part of what makes Mugello Mugello. imagine a flat Phillip Island, would it st...

Re: DON'T TOUCH MUGELLO !

I still like Jerry Burgess' solution: 4 gears instead of 6. Make power delivery more important. fine by me ! but I don't think the top speeds will drop much as the 1000's have more than power enough, and their powerband is wide enough to cover the loss of one or even 2 gears. I fear Mugello would s...

Re: DON'T TOUCH MUGELLO !

firstly, the topic isn't about electronics, it's about wether we (or at least me but there seem to be others to) want to keep all the glorious tracks that produce great racing, or do we want to keep the current bikes (of which some believe it is only due to these bikes that we have great racing and ...

Re: DON'T TOUCH MUGELLO !

[For your argument to hold, the relationship between power and need for electronics needs to be monotonic. You need to establish that, and you haven't. :?: can you tell me at what point the need for electronics will decrease again with ever increasing power ? it will only rise, if only for the need...

Re: DON'T TOUCH MUGELLO !

I have no clue what you mean with monotonic. but you have linear, you have exponantional, and you have many more correlations between 2 given's. I don't know what the correlation is between horsepower and the usefulness/need of electronics to be able to get the max out of a motorcycle, but surely ev...

Re: DON'T TOUCH MUGELLO !

Your point appears, to me, to be based upon an assumption that the need for electronics is a linear function of horsepower. I see no reason why that should be the case once we get to the power levels of racing motorcycles. All I said was that with less horsepower, electronics become less important....

Re: DON'T TOUCH MUGELLO !

Electronics on corner exit is maybe 30% of their use. with 3BHP you do not need electronics to control wheelies, with 130BHP you only need it in first and just maybe in second gear. engine braking : the same. an engine that produces only 3BHP also produces next to no engine braking. so my point rem...

Re: KTM better or worse

A trellis frame is however made of tubing. If you compare aluminium tubing to steel tubing, for the same weight aluminium can be made stronger as you can use more material and increase the diameter. The larger size tubing is more rigid as a result of the larger diameter. I dont doubt they can trian...

Re: KTM better or worse

any metal bridge that does not have an arche (arches are very good at dirstibuting/diverting forces to the foundations) are made up of arches. you will never ever find a big bridge without an arche that is made solely made up of rectangles. it can have major rectangle parts, but it will always have ...

Re: KTM better or worse

a triangle is much much more dificult to disturb than a rectangle , just look at any metal bridge/roof construction. so if you use triangles, you need less material to get the same strength.

Re: KTM better or worse

Looking at the KTM frame in this video there is one one vertical layer of tubes connecting the front of the frame to the back of the frame, so it appears that they are using the engine as a stressed member https://youtu.be/wmx4JpF7Uws I couldn't find a single picture of the actual frame/bike withou...

Either frame or suspension only ktm and riders know what is to blame no, not either one of them. If that is true, Aprilia would be fighting for victories with their twin spar and öhlins. but they are not. Even Yamaha is most of the time not. What are people blaming they are not competitive ? can't ...

and not forgetting : less power means electronics are less important ! The lesson of the 800s was that the opposite was true. The 990s went from rudimentary electronics to advanced electronics on the 800s to maximize power and manage torque at the bottom. There are always unforeseen consequences wh...

Re: DON'T TOUCH MUGELLO !

cutting rev's, limit fuel pressure or flow , or ... ain't little things that "do not require" a new engine. You all seem to think they will just set the rev limit in the software and that's it. cost's next to nothing ? But all engines are built arround the rules to get the optimum result possible. c...
