Portimao WorldSBK January Test Sunday Times: Redding Heads The Pack

A few days after packing up at Jerez, the WorldSBK paddock - or at least a large part of it - is back in action in Portugal, at Portimao. Prominent absentees are Jonathan Rea and Alex Lowes of the KRT Kawasaki team, who are in Barcelona testing. With the weather having looked favorably at the Portimao circuit, the teams got in plenty of laps.

Scott Redding ended the day as fastest, the Aruba.it Ducati rider vastly less experienced at Portimao. Redding was under the circuit race record, and nearly six tenths quicker than second-fastest man Loris Baz on the Ten Kate Yamaha.

Baz led a fleet of Yamahas, the Frenchman finishing ahead of both Pata Yamaha riders, Toprak Razgatlioglu a couple of tenths quicker than Michael van der Mark.  Eugene Lavery beat his BMW teammate Tom Sykes, though the margin was slim. Sykes was faster in turn than Chaz Davies on the second Aruba.it Ducati, and just ahead of Sandro Cortese. Leon Haslam was the fastest of the Honda riders in ninth, Alvaro Bautista finishing in fifteenth.

Jules Cluzel led the way in the World Supersport class, the Yamaha rider just ahead of Kawasaki's Lucas Mahias. Behind Mahias came another armada of Yamahas, Steven Odendaal leading Andrea Locatelli and Corentin Perolari.

The test continues on Monday.

Thanks David.

It is only testing. Jonathan Rea isn't there. But it is some indication of the coming season.

Had hoped to see photos of Scott Redding's latest hair style. Looks like SR45 can ride a WSBK Ducati V4R OK

Good to see Loris Baz doing quick times on the Yamaha. So sweet to see Ten Kate faster than the Pata Yamahas. I do hope this continues.

Welcome to Yamaha Toprak, it's obviously not the Kawasaki that makes Razgatlioglu fast. He has got the right stuff! Future world champion for Turkey.

Another "fleet of Yamahas" in supersport & all.

Welcome back Danny Webb, this is yer big chance! Don't make a mess of it!

Thanks Claw that was worth a watch.

Even the haircut wasn't so bad. Particularly with a cap on.

V4R sounds filth!

Grazie mille

David, what is it going to take for CD to become consistently competitive on the Ducati?
