2019 Le Mans Moto2 FP2 Result: A Blinder From Binder

With the darkening clouds edging ever closer throughout the final session of the day, it was lucky that the intermediate class got a full afternoon of dry running. Brad Binder in particular made the best of the track time available and brought KTM and their new chassis back into the limelight by taking the lead in FP2 as the checkered flag came out. After a pretty excellent FP1, Remy Gardner confirmed that no bruises or burns were going to keep him away from the fight and as proof, he finished the day five hundredths of a second down on the leader.

Lorenzo Baldassarri completed the top ten not too far back and having led for most of the session, while Augusto Fernandez and Mattia Pasini joined the top five. Marcel Schrotter is always there or thereabouts, this time in sixth, with FP1 leader Andrea Locatelli seventh, two tenths off the leader.

The experience of Simone Corsi and Alex Marquez put them ahead of rookie Enea Bastianini but the Italian showed good speed to round out the top ten. If the forecast for FP3 is to be believed, then Nicolo Bulega, Bo Bendsneyder, Jorge Martin and Xavi Vierge look set for Q2 from the top 14 positions, while Jorge Navarro, Tom Luthi and Sam Lowes missed out – the last two due to more or less unexpected crashes.
