The World Supersport race was sixteen close-fought laps of Aragon. Hector Barbera didn't start the race, in spite of qualifying in twelfth place as Barbera and his team went their separate ways before the race.
Federico Caricasulo took the lead from pole-sitter Thomas Gradinger and fought over the lead ahead of Jules Cluzel, Randy Krummenacher and Thomas Mahias, and on the second lap, Caricasulo set thew fastest lap as he and Gradinger broke from the fight for third between Krummenacher and Cluzel, the championship leaders.
On lap four, Raffaele De Rosa dropped the riders behind him and passed Cluzel for fourth place and he set the fastest lap on laps six and seven as he and Krummenacher turned up the pace, dropping Cluzel and catching Caricasulo and Gradinger on lap ten to make it a four way battle for the win.
Turn four of lap ten, Thomas Gradinger tied up the first few corners and passed Federico Caricasulo through turns four and five to take the lead and Randy Krummenacher hounded Caricasulo the rest of the lap. The top four were within two thirds of a second of each other and, at the end of lap twelve, Caricasulo made a mistake at turn fourteen, Krummenacher botched turn sixteen and Gradinger fluffed turn seventeen setting up a very close start to lap thirteen, the leaders crossing the line four abreast, over two seconds clear of Jules Cluzel. Caricasulo took the lead ahead of De Rosa, Krummenacher and Gradinger.
Two laps of formation flying later, three riders crossed the line next to each other, with Randy Krummenacher taking the lead only to make a mistake on turn eight, letting Raffaele De Rosa and Federico Caricasulo kick him to third.
On the last lap, Randy Krummenacher once again showed his strength on the start-finish straight, reclaiming second place. While the leading four were all within each other's reach, Thomas Gradinger looked very much like an onlooker in fourth place as the leading three all took turns at the front in the last laps, and on the back straight, as De Rosa looked like he might take the first non-Yamaha victory in over a year, Krummenacher reeled him in and passed him neatly down the back straight, holding the lead round the last corners and taking the win.
Randy Krummenacher beat Raffaele De Rosa and a dejected Federico Caricasulo to take the championship lead. Thomas Gradinger was half a second behind the exceedingly close podium fight and two and a half seconds clear of fifth-placed Jules Cluzel. Corentin Perolari won the fight for sixth, fending off Lucas Mahias, Hikari Okubo and Kyle Smith in an exceedingly close race-long battle.
