Maverick Viñales comes within seven hundredths of a second of Jorge Lorenzo's fastest two-wheeled lap around Sepang, set during the test last year.

It looks like Zarco has gained some significant ground with the RC16. I wasn't expecting him to be that close to the top 10 after the latest commentary I've heard from him.

a bit concern how CC35 ride on '59 pace just after carrer threatning injury.. cc more prone to crash than others..and actually he did crash today..cross my finger he'll be fine in last day. other concern for syahrin who consistently at bottom, even behind slowest rookie oliveira..he should be with petronas yamaha for his carrer sake.

Maverick has his mojo back. Over half a second per lap quicker, that's handy.

I know it is only testing, but wow! Alex Rins even faster. Four Suzukis, I think I've read that right.

Jack Miller can ride a motorbike.

Welcome back Cal, fastest Honda. Hope the ankle is all better now.

4 different manufactureres in the top five.

5 KTMs on track, seems like a serious effort. Only 2 Aprilia, get well soon & go faster, Andrea Iannone.

This test underlines the promise of the next season:

  1. The rookies all look really fast. The class right across the grid is astonishing.
  2. Looks like the pressure will really be on between the three guys on GP19s, and those guys will need to keep an eye on Rabat, And Bagnaia is only .3 slower than Rabat here.
  3. Zarco looks a lot faster on the KTM than we might have expected after Valencia.
  4. The really worrying thiing though is that a Marquez who surely cannot be full fit after his shoulder surgery is quick and we can probably say the same about Cal C too. It will be hard to remove the favouritism from MM and Honda at this stage. And with JL coming back and a team boss who will surely keep revving up the 3d printer to do whatever he darn well wants, I reckon they are odds on to take Manufacturer title too.
